Mbale City | April 14, 2025 — The National Unity Platform (NUP), Uganda’s leading opposition political movement, has today intensified its grassroots mobilisation efforts with a major strategic launch in Eastern Uganda. Party President Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine, led a high-level engagement with NUP leaders drawn from across 40 districts that constitute the Eastern region, including Busoga, Bugisu, Bukedi, Teso, and Sebei sub-regions.

Held in Mbale City, the mobilisation meeting was not only a training workshop but also a tactical launchpad to ignite grassroots organisation and political agitation across the region. Kyagulanyi urged the regional leaders to embody courage and resilience in the face of escalating state intimidation and suppression.

There has never been an opportune time to cast the die and make history than now, Kyagulanyi and team seem to be vowing

“This engagement is a revolutionary assignment. We are here to train, organise, and launch our people into action. In the face of fear, we choose hope. In the face of intimidation, we stand firm,” Kyagulanyi told the enthusiastic gathering.

According to the NUP president, the mission is clear — to reclaim political space and organise the masses in preparation for what he called “the ultimate people’s revolution.” The Eastern region, historically overlooked in opposition mobilisation, is now emerging as a critical battleground in NUP’s nationwide strategy.

The event also witnessed the reception of new members and leaders into the party, signalling NUP’s expanding influence in previously hard-to-penetrate districts.

“We are encouraged by the passion and zeal displayed by our leaders in this region. Their energy reaffirms our belief that change is not only possible — it is within reach,” Kyagulanyi added.

The training was facilitated in partnership with the Friedrich Naumann Foundation Africa, a liberal democratic foundation supporting political education and civic empowerment across the continent.

NUP’s mobilisation message continues to resonate particularly among youth and first-time voters. With slogans like #PeoplePowerOurPower, the wave that is firmly spreading countrywide is cultivating a sense of ownership, agency, and urgency among its supporters.

As Uganda moves toward a tense political season, NUP’s Mbale event underscores the party’s intent to secure a stronger foothold in rural and semi-urban districts, far beyond its central Uganda strongholds.
