UgandaToday: Masaka’s Almorie Naggayi Crowned Miss Uganda 2026/2027, Sets Sights On Miss World

KAMPALA, UGANDA — Nineteen-year-old Almorie Nagayi from Masaka has been crowned Miss Uganda 2026/2027, earning the opportunity to represent the country at the Miss World 2027 competition scheduled to take place in Tanzania.
Nagayi emerged victorious at the grand finale held at Sheraton Gardens in Kampala, with the crowning taking place in the early hours of Sunday, October 11, following an evening of fashion, entertainment and competition among 22 finalists from different parts of Uganda.
Her victory marks a significant milestone in her pageant journey and places her at the forefront of a national platform that increasingly emphasises leadership, community service and the empowerment of young women.
Nagayi Beats 21 Finalists To Claim The Crown
Representing Masaka City and the Central Region, Naggayi distinguished herself in a contest that brought together young women selected through a nationwide search.
She succeeds Trivia Elle Muhoza, who held the 2025/2026 title after a year of representing Uganda and championing community-focused initiatives.
A Miss Uganda Story Rooted In Family
Behind newly crowned Miss Uganda 2026/2027 Almorie Naggayi Sophia is a family story spanning three generations of women, linked by beauty pageantry, personal inspiration and family support.
One of the most memorable moments of the preliminary events was Nagayi’s decision to walk onto the runway alongside her maternal grandmother, 70-year-old Josephine Nakaliisa Lukoma, affectionately known as Jjajja Josephine.
The appearance took place during the Miss Uganda 2026 Top Model night, when contestants were invited to share the runway with someone special in their lives. Rather than choosing a celebrity or another public figure, Nagayi selected the grandmother whose presence represents an important part of her family history.
Jjajja Josephine: The Grandmother Who Shared Her Spotlight
Naggayi’s decision to walk with her grandmother transformed a fashion presentation into a personal tribute to family bonds and the influence of older generations.
In explaining her choice, Naggayi described her grandmother as “a testament and a monument in my life,” according to reporting by The Capital Times.
The moment carried particular significance because Josephine had previously watched her own daughter, Rachael Mwagale, pursue the Miss Uganda title. Decades later, she stood beside Rachael’s daughter as the younger woman embarked on a similar journey.
The runway appearance offered a reminder that behind the glamour of beauty competitions are family relationships, encouragement and personal histories that rarely receive as much attention as the crown itself.
Rachael Mwagale: The Mother Who Inspired The Queen
Naggayi’s mother, Rachael Mwagale, also contested for Miss Uganda when she was 19, according to The Capital Times. Her daughter is now the same age and has gone on to win the national crown.
The family connection gives Naggayi’s victory a distinctive intergenerational dimension: the mother once pursued the title, while the daughter has now achieved it, with the grandmother witnessing both chapters.
Nagayi has also identified her mother as her role model and source of inspiration. Reports on her pageant journey indicate that this influence helped shape her ambitions and interest in creating opportunities for other young women.
What About Her Father And Siblings?

Rachael Mwagale, the mother under whose steps her daughter took, had one word to say “only Jesus” brother only identified as Adnan, encouraged his sister to the last moment, while the father couldn’t hide the ecstatic moments when he took to the mid of the crowd to pray in his Islamic faith.
A Crown That Connects Generations
At 19, Naggayi has become the latest member of her family to step into the Miss Uganda story, taking it further by winning the 2026/2027 title.
Her grandmother’s appearance on the preliminary runway and her mother’s earlier participation add a personal dimension to her achievement. They also show how a public milestone can become a celebration of family history, shared aspirations and the women who inspire the next generation.
As Naggayi prepares to represent Uganda at Miss World 2027 in Tanzania, the story of her crown is therefore not only about a young woman’s success. It is also about a mother who inspired her, a grandmother who walked beside her, and a family legacy that has found a new chapter on the national stage.
The runners-up were Bridget Prudence Nakato, who finished first runner-up, and Lukia Balunywa, who secured the second runner-up position.
The result also highlights the growing importance of regional representation in the competition, with contestants bringing different backgrounds, talents and aspirations to the national stage.
Beauty With A Purpose: Empowering Women And Girls

Beyond the glamour of the crown, Naggayi’s platform is centred on financial literacy and vocational training for young women and girls in order to address the plight of joblessness.
Her Beauty With A Purpose project seeks to equip beneficiaries with practical skills in managing money, developing small businesses and building financial independence. The initiative reflects the view that sustainable empowerment requires not only inspiration but also access to knowledge and opportunities.
The project could give her a meaningful opportunity to engage communities, work with development partners and highlight the economic challenges facing young women in Uganda.
Her interests in diplomacy and international relations also suggest ambitions that extend beyond the pageant stage.
From Miss Uganda High School To The National Crown
Naggayi is not a newcomer to beauty competitions. She previously won the Miss Uganda High School title in 2024 and subsequently represented Uganda at Miss Teen International in India.
Her latest victory therefore represents another step in a pageant journey that has exposed her to competitive platforms and international representation.
At 19, she assumes the responsibility of representing a country whose young population continues to seek greater opportunities in education, employment, entrepreneurship and leadership.
The coming year will test her ability to translate public attention into practical initiatives while balancing her personal ambitions with the expectations associated with the national title.
Miss World 2027: Uganda’s Next International Test
Nagayi’s next major assignment will be the Miss World 2027 competition, which organisers have scheduled for Tanzania in September 2027.
She will follow in the footsteps of Ugandan queens who have used the international stage to promote the country’s identity and charitable causes.
Her predecessor, Muhoza, made notable progress at Miss World 2026 in Vietnam, reaching Africa’s top six in the Beauty With a Purpose challenge and the top five in the Multimedia Challenge.
That performance provides a useful benchmark for the new queen as she prepares for the international contest.
For Naggayi, the challenge will be to combine confident presentation and cultural representation with a credible community project capable of demonstrating measurable impact.
Miss Uganda Celebrates 15 Years Of Foundation Leadership
The 2026/2027 edition also coincides with the 15th anniversary of the Miss Uganda Foundation under the leadership of Brenda Nanyonjo.
Over the years, the pageant has sought to evolve beyond a beauty competition into a platform for developing confidence, leadership, public communication and community engagement among young women.
Uganda’s participation in Miss World dates back to 1967, when Rosemary Salmon became the country’s first representative. Since then, the national title has remained a prominent platform for showcasing Ugandan women internationally.
Naggayi’s reign now begins with both the prestige of the crown and the expectation that she will use her visibility to make a difference.
Uganda Today’s Take: Naggayi’s victory is a celebration of youthful ambition and regional talent. Her lasting achievement, however, will depend not simply on how she performs at Miss World, but also on how effectively she turns her year in the spotlight into opportunities for women and girls across Uganda.
