Kampala, Uganda — November 4, 2025:
The Electoral Commission (IEC) has officially released the polling dates for Uganda’s much-anticipated 2026 Presidential, Parliamentary, and Local Government elections.

In a press statement dated October 29, 2025, and signed by Justice Byabakama Mugenyi Simon, the IEC Chairperson, the Commission outlined a detailed schedule that will see Ugandans head to the polls between January 15 and February 6, 2026.

According to the IEC, the first major event on the calendar will be the Election of the President and Members of Parliament, slated for January 15, 2026. This includes directly elected MPs and District Woman Representatives.

The Commission has set January 15, 2026, as polling day for President and Parliament.”

Elections for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) representatives to Parliament will follow on January 19, coinciding with the election of Councillors representing Special Interest Groups (SIGs)—including youths, older persons, and PWDs—at Sub-County, Town, and Municipal Division levels.

  • January 22, 2026: Election of District and City Local Government Councils, including Lord Mayors and Chairpersons.

  • January 27, 2026: Election of Municipality and City Division Chairpersons and Councillors.

  • January 28, 2026: Election of National Female Youth, National Female Older Persons, and UPDF Representatives to Parliament.

  • February 2, 2026: Regional Conference for election of Older Persons Representatives to Parliament.

  • February 4–6, 2026: Election of Sub County/Town/Municipal Division Chairpersons and Regional Youth Representatives to Parliament.

Justice Byabakama urged all candidates, their agents, and supporters to observe the respective polling dates and conduct themselves in accordance with established electoral guidelines to ensure peaceful, free, and fair elections.

“The Commission reminds all candidates, election observers, and the general public to participate in line with the set guidelines for polling the respective elective positions,” reads part of the statement.

This announcement effectively signals the official countdown to the 2026 general elections, setting the stage for political campaigns and voter mobilization across the country.
