KAMPALA – Prominent Kampala-based lawyer and Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) presidential aspirant, David Innocent Nyote, is at the centre of disturbing allegations involving the defilement of a teenage student from Lakeside Secondary School, Luzira. The unfolding scandal has shocked political circles and reignited debates on accountability among Uganda’s elite.
According to credible sources familiar with the matter, Nyote is alleged to have sexually abused a Senior Two student at Lakeside Secondary School in Luzira, a Kampala suburb. In a shocking twist to the case, the victim was reportedly relocated to Buikwe Town Council, some 50km away from Kampala, where she was hidden until she gave birth. Afterward, both the girl and the newborn were moved to an undisclosed location.

A Landlord Confirms Suspicious Movements
When contacted for comment, Mr. Njoli, a bursar at Lweru Secondary School and landlord in Buikwe, confirmed that Nyote had rented one of his properties for approximately four months.
“Yes, Mr. Nyote was my tenant for that period. I can confirm that he housed two girls at the property,” said Mr. Njoli. “One of them appeared visibly young, and neighbors frequently questioned their presence, but I did not probe further.”
While Njoli did not confirm seeing the girl pregnant or giving birth, he acknowledged that the young girls’ presence raised concerns among community members.
Missing Persons, Missing Justice?
Efforts to trace the teenage girl or the newborn have been futile. Community members in Buikwe claim the girls disappeared “overnight” without notice. Local leaders and child protection officials in the area told Uganda Today they had not received any formal reports, underscoring a troubling lack of oversight in a case potentially involving a minor’s sexual exploitation.
Human rights advocates have decried the incident as a “classic case of elite impunity” in a society where victims of sexual violence often remain voiceless.
“We are dealing with a systemic failure,” said Evelyn Komugisha, a Kampala-based children’s rights lawyer. “If these allegations are true, Nyote must face justice. Hiding a minor after defilement and birth is criminal. The fact that he’s a presidential aspirant makes this even more unacceptable.”
Silence from Nyote
Repeated efforts by Uganda Today to reach Mr. David Innocent Nyote for comment were unsuccessful. His office in Kampala was reportedly closed at the time of filing this report, and his known mobile numbers were switched off.
Sources within the UPC party structure, speaking on condition of anonymity, said they were unaware of the case but would “closely follow the developments.”

Legal and Political Implications
Should the allegations be formally confirmed, Nyote could face charges under Uganda’s Penal Code, including defilement, unlawful confinement, and possibly child neglect or trafficking. These crimes carry severe penalties, including life imprisonment.
Politically, the scandal may threaten to derail Nyote’s presidential ambitions under the UPC banner, especially at a time when Uganda’s electorate is increasingly critical of candidates’ moral standing.
A senior UPC official who spoke anonymously said:
“We must let the law take its course, but if it turns out true, the party will not protect anyone involved in such disgraceful conduct.”
What Next?
Authorities have not yet confirmed whether a formal police investigation is underway. However, sources within the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) hinted at “interest in the matter,” especially due to its potential legal and political ramifications.
As calls for justice grow louder, the case of David Innocent Nyote may serve as a test of Uganda’s commitment to protecting vulnerable minors and holding power figures accountable.
