UgandaToday: SFC Dismisses Alleged State House Letter on Bagyendanwa Drum as Fake
The Special Forces Command (SFC) has dismissed as fake a purported State House letter alleging the theft of the historic Bagyendanwa drum, following public debate sparked by an earlier feature article published by Uganda Today.
The clarification was issued by Jimmy Omara, the SFC Communication Officer, through his official X (formerly Twitter) handle, where he categorically stated that the circulating letter attributed to State House was not authentic.
The development follows the publication of a feature article titled “Questions Swirl Around State House Security and the Symbolism of the Bagyendanwa Drum” by Uganda Today Feature Article, which discussed concerns surrounding the reported disappearance of the culturally significant Bagyendanwa drum and the implications for national heritage and security.
However, according to Omara, the alleged State House communication referenced in the discussions is fabricated and should be disregarded by the public.

“The letter circulating on social media claiming to be from State House regarding the Bagyendanwa drum is fake,” Omara stated in his clarification, urging the public to rely only on verified and official communication channels.
The SFC clarification is expected to calm speculation that had emerged online following circulation of the document and subsequent public commentary on the matter.
The Bagyendanwa drum remains an important cultural symbol in Uganda’s history, particularly within the Ankole kingdom heritage, making any claims surrounding its status highly sensitive and widely followed by the public.
Authorities have meanwhile cautioned members of the public against spreading unverified information, especially on matters touching national institutions and cultural heritage.
