UgandaToday: Muhoozi’s “Baryomunsi Will Never Be a Minister Again” Remark Returns to Haunt Online Debate as Museveni Hands Him Powerful Health Docket
By Uganda Today Political Desk
A social media exchange that once appeared to be another passing episode in Uganda’s heated political discourse has dramatically resurfaced following President Museveni’s latest cabinet appointments.
Months after Uganda’s military chief and influential ‘political figure’ against the constitutional dispensation that bars serving army officers from participating in partisan politics, Muhoozi Kainerugaba, publicly declared that Dr. Chris Baryomunsi “would never be a minister again,” online users are now reviving the old post with sarcasm and humor after Baryomunsi emerged not only as a cabinet survivor but as one of the biggest beneficiaries of the reshuffle.
Under President Yoweri Museveni’s newly unveiled cabinet announced on May 26, 2026, Dr. Baryomunsi has been appointed Minister of Health, one of the country’s most influential and politically sensitive portfolios.
A Tweet That Refuses To Die
The revived discussion centers around an earlier X exchange in which Muhoozi wrote:
“Baryomunsi, the traitor, will never be a Minister again.”
The comment generated intense discussion at the time, with many political observers interpreting it as a signal of widening fractures or dissatisfaction within circles associated with the First Family.
Dr. Baryomunsi responded in a measured tone:
“I rose from obscurity to where I am because of my abilities not favours from anybody… Being a Minister is not necessarily the best thing in life.”
Rather than escalating the confrontation, Baryomunsi projected confidence in his own professional and political journey.
Today, however, social media users have turned the exchange into political comedy material, reposting screenshots alongside comments suggesting that Ugandan politics remains one of the most unpredictable theatres in the region.
From ICT to Health: A Bigger Political Assignment
Far from disappearing from government structures, Baryomunsi appears to have climbed into an even more strategic position.

The Ministry of Health carries enormous national importance, particularly after years marked by disease outbreaks, public health financing debates, and healthcare infrastructure challenges. Reports on the cabinet reshuffle indicate that Baryomunsi moved from ICT and National Guidance to take over the health docket.
For political analysts, the appointment may be interpreted as a signal of continued confidence from Museveni.
Baryomunsi is not entirely new to health administration. His professional background as a physician and public health specialist, alongside previous experience in health-related government roles, places him in familiar territory.
Social Media Declares “Political Receipts Never Expire”
The internet rarely forgets, and Uganda’s online political space has demonstrated precisely that.

Across X, Facebook and WhatsApp discussion groups, users have resurrected archived screenshots of the Muhoozi statement and juxtaposed them with images of the newly sworn cabinet lineup.
Some online users jokingly remarked that “political screenshots mature like wine,” while others argued the development demonstrates the fluid nature of power relationships in Uganda’s political establishment.
Others viewed the moment as a reminder that presidential decisions ultimately remain the final determinant in cabinet composition.

The Bigger Lesson in Uganda’s Political Chessboard
Ugandan politics has repeatedly shown that predictions often collide with political realities.
Individuals once considered politically finished have resurfaced in powerful positions, while seemingly untouchable figures have occasionally found themselves on the sidelines.
Whether the resurfaced Muhoozi–Baryomunsi exchange remains a humorous internet moment or evolves into broader discussion about internal political dynamics, one reality now stands clear: Dr. Chris Baryomunsi is not only still in cabinet — he has returned holding one of government’s heaviest responsibilities.
And in Uganda’s political arena, yesterday’s prediction can become tomorrow’s punchline.
