Uganda Today Edition: Bushenyi RDC Robert Atuhairwe in Hot Water Over Alleged Love Affair with Bweranyangi Girls SS Student

In a shocking turn of events, Bushenyi Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Robert Atuhairwe finds himself at the center of a scandal that could cost him his job and potentially land him in court. Atuhairwe is under investigation by the President’s Office following allegations of a romantic relationship with a Senior Three (S3) student from Bweranyangi Girls Secondary School. The controversy has sparked outrage in the local community, raising concerns about the abuse of power and predatory behavior by individuals in influential positions.

The drama reportedly unfolded on September 27, when the S3 student, emboldened by her secret relationship with the RDC, bragged to her classmates about being in a romantic relationship with Atuhairwe. Skeptical of her claims, the girl’s peers demanded proof. In response, she allegedly called RDC Atuhairwe in front of them, and the conversation between the two sounded like that of lovers, confirming her story.

The situation escalated when RDC Atuhairwe, accompanied by his security detail, arrived at the school’s gate later that day, carrying a birthday cake for the student. This gesture sent shockwaves through the school, with the students mockingly referring to Atuhairwe as their “brother-in-law,” or “Mula” in their playful slang. Word of the RDC’s visit quickly spread among the school’s staff and even reached the bishop of West Ankole Diocese, Johnson Twinomujuni, who is said to have intervened after learning about the incident.

Concerned parents, outraged by the news of a powerful government official allegedly preying on a teenage girl, voiced their complaints to the school administration. Their discontent only intensified when the scandal reached the President’s Office, triggering an official investigation. Many parents demanded action, citing the potential dangers of such relationships between their daughters and influential figures.

The situation took a serious turn when Yunus Kakande, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of the Presidency, wrote to RDC Robert Atuhairwe on October 13, informing him of impending disciplinary action. In his letter, Kakande referred to Atuhairwe’s personal statement, which he had submitted to Presidency Minister Milly Babirye Babalanda on October 10, regarding the incident. Atuhairwe was instructed to prepare a formal response to the accusations as part of the investigation process.

As Atuhairwe faces an uncertain future, there is growing speculation that his position as RDC may be in jeopardy. Should the investigation confirm his involvement in the alleged affair, he risks being removed from office and facing legal consequences. The case has also ignited a broader conversation about the need to protect young girls in schools from predatory relationships, especially with individuals in positions of power.

The incident at Bweranyangi Girls SS has not only put the RDC under scrutiny but also highlighted the importance of safeguarding students and holding public officials accountable for their actions. As the probe continues, all eyes are on the President’s Office to ensure that justice is served and that the integrity of the nation’s leadership is upheld.
