UgandaToday: NUP Mourns 27-Year-Old Paul Musoke After House Fire Attack

A Young Foot Soldier Dies From Severe Injuries

The National Unity Platform (NUP) is mourning the death of 27-year-old Paul Musoke, a young party supporter whose life was cut short after he was severely injured in a suspected arson attack on his home.

NUP leader Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine, announced Musoke’s death in a social media post, describing him as “a young patriot”, a committed foot soldier and a disciplined youth leader.

According to Kyagulanyi, Musoke had undergone training through the NUP School of Leadership and was regarded as a committed member of the opposition party.

His death has renewed calls for investigations into the circumstances surrounding the attack and for those responsible to be held accountable.

House Allegedly Set Ablaze With Musoke Inside

Kyagulanyi said Musoke’s home was attacked last week, with the door reportedly closed from the outside before the house was set on fire.

The young NUP supporter sustained severe injuries in the incident. Neighbours reportedly came to his rescue and rushed him to hospital, where he remained under medical care.

Despite efforts to save his life, Musoke died from the injuries.

Recent reports have similarly stated that Musoke was trapped inside his house during the fire and later received treatment for severe burns before succumbing to his injuries. The circumstances have prompted calls from NUP supporters for a thorough investigation.

Kyagulanyi Demands Justice

In his message, Kyagulanyi described Musoke’s death as a tragic loss and linked it to what he characterised as a wider pattern of violent deaths involving opposition supporters and comrades.

“Paul deserves justice,” Kyagulanyi said, while mourning the young activist.

The NUP leader further alleged that, in many previous cases involving the deaths of party supporters, the perpetrators have not been brought to justice.

The remarks place the spotlight on the need for credible investigations into the attack on Musoke and for the authorities to establish exactly what happened, identify those responsible and ensure that the case proceeds through the justice system.

A Life Cut Short At 27

For the NUP, Musoke’s death represents the loss of a young person who had committed himself to political activism and party leadership.

His participation in the NUP School of Leadership, according to Kyagulanyi, reflected the party’s effort to train and organise young people within its political structures.

At only 27, Musoke’s death has also raised renewed concerns about the vulnerability of young political activists amid Uganda’s often highly contested political environment.

Mourning A Comrade

Kyagulanyi ended his message with a farewell to the deceased activist, presenting Musoke’s death not only as a personal tragedy but also as a loss to the wider NUP family.

“Fare thee well comrade,” Kyagulanyi wrote.

Musoke’s death is now likely to intensify demands for answers surrounding the reported attack, particularly over how the fire started, why the door was allegedly secured from outside and whether the incident was deliberately targeted.

For his family, friends and political colleagues, however, the immediate reality is the loss of a 27-year-old whose life and political journey ended in circumstances that remain deeply troubling.

As investigations and calls for accountability continue, the central question remains whether those responsible for the attack will ultimately be identified and brought to justice.
