UgandaToday: Beacon of Hope Mission Takes Global Healing Message to New Zealand, Honours Voices of Impact and Transformation
By UgandaToday Editorial Desk
The Beacon of Hope Mission, founded and led by global director Kelly Markey, is expanding its international humanitarian and literary work with a mission centred on restoring hope, dignity and healing among communities affected by trauma, loss, illness, mental health challenges and life-altering diagnoses.
The international initiative, whose guiding philosophy is to “sprinkle hope around the world,” uses storytelling, advocacy, publishing and global recognition platforms to amplify voices of resilience and celebrate individuals making a meaningful difference in their communities.
From Personal Stories to a Global Platform of Hope
At the heart of the Beacon of Hope Mission is the belief that stories of adversity can become powerful instruments for healing and social transformation.
Through its publishing arm, Markey Writing Academy, the organisation provides authors and storytellers with opportunities to share lived experiences with international audiences.
The platform has particularly sought to give visibility to stories of courage, survival, leadership and personal transformation, creating a community of what the organisation describes as “hope agents”—people whose experiences and work inspire others to overcome adversity.
Global Awards Continue Their International Journey
The annual Beacon of Hope Mission Awards were established to recognise individuals whose lives and work demonstrate courage, leadership, innovation and transformational impact.
The awards have travelled across international destinations, beginning in New York City, before moving to an exclusive ceremony at Bonamanzi Game Reserve in South Africa.
The global awards journey now moves to New Zealand, where the next ceremony is scheduled for 29 August 2026.
The New Zealand event will also provide the setting for the launch of the organisation’s global anthology, Manifesto of Hope.
Organisers say the event will bring together local community “hope agents” and other participants committed to promoting hope and positive social change.
With seating limited, guests have been encouraged to reserve their places through the official event information platform.
Supporting Cancer Patients in New Zealand
Beyond celebrating achievement, the New Zealand gathering will also have a humanitarian purpose.
According to the organisers, funds raised through the event will go towards supporting cancer patients in New Zealand, helping provide essential care and assistance during treatment.
The fundraising component reflects the wider mission of Beacon of Hope Mission, which seeks to connect recognition and storytelling with practical support for people facing difficult circumstances.
Dr Adama Kalokoh Named Top Book of the Year
One of the notable recognitions for 2026 is the Beacon of Hope Mission Top Book of the Year Award, which has been awarded to Dr Adama Kalokoh.
The award recognises her literary contribution, particularly work rooted in lived experience, resilience and legacy.
Her recognition highlights the role of literature in preserving personal experiences while creating stories capable of reaching and inspiring readers across borders.
Deano Govender Honoured for Leadership and Innovation
The Beacon of Hope Mission Merit Award for Leader with Innovation has been presented to Deano Govender, in recognition of his leadership, innovation and commitment to sustainable community transformation.
Govender, the founder of Red Edge Holdings and Traxter Tyres Africa, is being recognised for developing enterprises that the organisation says extend beyond commercial interests to create platforms for empowerment and opportunity.
His journey—from grassroots beginnings to wider international impact—has been cited as an example of leadership focused on creating lasting value within communities.
The award reflects Beacon of Hope Mission’s philosophy that meaningful leadership should ultimately be measured by the lives positively affected by it.
Beacon of Hope Mission Magazine Documents Global Impact
Alongside its awards programme, the organisation publishes the Beacon of Hope Mission Magazine, a global publication featuring award recipients, finalists and hope agents from different parts of the world.
The magazine documents stories of leadership, resilience, social impact and personal transformation, creating a record of people whose experiences offer encouragement to others.
Readers can access the organisation’s event and publication information through its official platforms.
Kelly Markey: ‘Hope Is Active, Living and World-Changing’
Founder Kelly Markey says the mission was born from a conviction that hope can be restored even in the most difficult circumstances.
“Beacon of Hope Mission was born from a deep conviction that even in the most broken places, hope can be restored,” Markey says.
She adds that the organisation seeks to ensure that stories that might otherwise remain unheard are given a global platform.
“Every award, every story, and every publication is a reminder that hope is not passive—it is active, living, and world-changing,” she says.
Looking Ahead to London in 2027
The organisation’s international journey will continue in London in 2027, where Beacon of Hope Mission plans to launch its next global anthology, Fortified by Hope.
The planned London programme is expected to build on the organisation’s growing international network of authors, leaders, humanitarian advocates and community hope agents.
