KAMPALA – The Ministry of Health’s Department of National Health Laboratories and Diagnostic Services (NHLDS) has received an appreciation message from the Buganda Kingdom following the recognition of the Kabaka with the prestigious Africa Leadership Award during the 4th Annual National Test and Treat Initiatives Conference.

The message was formally delivered by Prince Henry Kayondo, who conveyed the Kingdom’s gratitude and reaffirmed Buganda’s commitment to strengthening partnerships aimed at improving public health outcomes across Uganda.

Ministry Commends Buganda’s Health Initiatives

Speaking during the engagement, the Ministry’s Director of Finance and Planning, Wilson Nyegenye, applauded the Buganda Kingdom for its unwavering commitment to community-led health interventions that have significantly contributed to disease prevention and management.

Nyegenye singled out the Kingdom’s sustained efforts in the fight against HIV/AIDS, sickle cell disease, and other communicable and non-communicable diseases. He also praised the Kingdom’s regular blood donation campaigns, describing them as critical interventions that continue to save lives while strengthening Uganda’s healthcare system.

He noted that the recognition accorded to the Kabaka reflects the Kingdom’s long-standing contribution to promoting preventive healthcare and mobilising communities to embrace healthy living.

Kingdom Pledges Continued Collaboration

On behalf of the Buganda Kingdom, Prince Henry Kayondo reiterated the Kingdom’s readiness to continue working closely with the Ministry of Health and other stakeholders to advance the country’s health agenda.

He emphasized that collaborative efforts remain essential in achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC), ensuring that all Ugandans have access to quality and affordable healthcare services without financial hardship.

The engagement further underscored the importance of partnerships between cultural institutions and government in promoting public health awareness, disease prevention, and sustainable health systems.

The Africa Leadership Award presented to the Kabaka recognises outstanding leadership and commitment towards advancing public health through the Africa Test and Treat Initiatives, an organisation that champions community-based healthcare interventions across the continent.
