UgandaToday: When Anita Among Crossed the Line: The “Museveni Father, Muhoozi Son” Remarks That Shocked Uganda
By Uganda Today Political Desk
Introduction
Speaker of Parliament Anita Among has built her political brand around fierce loyalty to Uganda’s ruling establishment. But among the many controversial statements she has made over the years, none generated as much backlash as her infamous “Holy Trinity” remarks during Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba’s political rallies in Teso.
At a packed rally organized in Bukedea to welcome Muhoozi Kainerugaba, Among stunned many Ugandans after invoking Christian symbolism while praising President Yoweri Museveni and his son.
“For us in Teso, we believe in the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.”
She then controversially likened Museveni to “God the Father” and Muhoozi to “God the Son,” remarks that immediately sparked accusations of blasphemy and political sycophancy.
The Bukedea Rally That Sparked National Debate
The remarks were delivered during Muhoozi Kainerugaba’s heavily publicized political mobilization tour in Teso sub-region.
The Bukedea event, hosted by Anita Among, attracted senior NRM figures, legislators and thousands of supporters aligned to the MK Movement.
Critics argued that the statements crossed the boundary between political mobilization and religious desecration.
Religious believers, opposition politicians and social media users accused the Speaker of elevating politicians into divine figures.

@libertyuganda Speaker Anita Among said.. In Bukedea, they believe in the Father, the Son, and the Holy spirit.
The remarks quickly went viral across Uganda’s political space, with many interpreting them as evidence of growing personality cult politics surrounding Museveni and Muhoozi.
“When Museveni Says Jump…”
Beyond the Trinity controversy, Anita Among has repeatedly projected herself as one of Museveni’s most loyal political lieutenants.
Political critics have long associated her with declarations suggesting unwavering readiness to support Museveni-backed legislation at all costs.
Several political commentators revisited statements attributed to her implying that whenever Museveni “asks her to jump,” she merely asks “how high.”
Her critics argue that such pronouncements reinforced fears that Parliament had increasingly become subordinate to the Executive.

Personality Cult Politics?
Analysts say the controversy exposed Uganda’s deepening culture of political hero worship.
While supporters viewed Among’s remarks as symbolic political rhetoric meant to energize NRM supporters, critics argued that invoking sacred Christian doctrine in partisan politics was reckless and offensive.
The controversy also reignited national debate about succession politics and the growing influence of Muhoozi Kainerugaba within Uganda’s ruling establishment.
Anita Among’s Political Style
Since becoming Speaker following the death of Jacob Oulanyah, Anita Among has cultivated a reputation as one of the most outspoken and combative figures in Uganda’s political landscape.
Her fiery rhetoric and unapologetic displays of loyalty have made her a dominant figure within the NRM, but also one of the country’s most polarizing political personalities.
For supporters, she is a fearless mobilizer.
For critics, she symbolizes the dangerous fusion of political power, personality cultism and unquestioning loyalty.
