UgandaToday: Solomon Kampala Breaks Silence on Youth Unemployment and Corruption in Uganda

Kampala, Uganda — Solomon Kampala, son to Uganda’s leading opposition figure and National Unity Platform (NUP) president, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine, has released a powerful video message decrying the rising levels of youth unemployment and systemic corruption in Uganda.

In the short clip that has since gone viral on social media, Solomon Kampala expresses frustration over what he terms a “broken system” that has left millions of employable Ugandans without meaningful work.

“More than 60% of employable Ugandans are jobless. Many young people wake up every day only to struggle for a meal, while those in government live lavishly off borrowed money,” Solomon lamented.

‘A Government of Borrowing and Spending’

The youthful Solomon castigated the Ugandan government for its over reliance on external borrowing, arguing that most of the loans secured are wasted on administrative expenditure instead of productive investments that could create jobs.

“We are stuck in a cycle of debt. Government borrows endlessly, but the money is used for luxury and political expediency,” he said.

Politics of Patronage

Solomon further denounced the politics of patronage and greed, noting that many competent Ugandans have been sidelined in favor of loyalists and cronies who lack innovation and empathy.

“The people in power live as spendthrifts, showing off wealth that doesn’t come from hard work,” he added. “Meanwhile, the youth — the very engine of our nation — are left hopeless.”

A Call to Conscience

His remarks echo the broader frustration among Uganda’s young population, who continue to face limited opportunities, a shrinking job market, and escalating living costs.
Observers say Solomon’s bold message mirrors the activism of his father, Bobi Wine, whose political movement has long centered on empowering the youth and fighting corruption.

Public Reactions

Solomon’s candid remarks have triggered wide reactions online, with many Ugandans praising him for speaking truth to power, while others caution that the country’s entrenched political elite rarely take such calls seriously.

As unemployment continues to bite, Solomon’s message adds a fresh youthful voice to the growing demand for accountability, economic justice, and generational renewal in Uganda’s governance.
