Kayunga, Uganda — In a stunning public revelation, former State Minister and current Woman Member of Parliament for Kayunga District, Hon. Aidah Erios Nantaba, has openly confirmed what many in the opposition and general public have long suspected — that the late Ffeffekka Sserubogo, the former LC5 Chairperson of Kayunga, was murdered, not a victim of suicide as officially reported.

This explosive disclosure was highlighted in a video shared by Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, alias Bobi Wine, the leader of the National Unity Platform (NUP), who hailed the statement as long-overdue vindication for what he and others have consistently claimed: that Sserubogo was targeted for his stance against land grabbing and corruption, and silenced by the very regime he challenged.

“Here is Aidah Nantaba, finally confirming what we have always said: that the regime murdered Mzee Ffefekka Sserubogo…because he stood against land grabbing and refused to bow to the corrupt system,” Kyagulanyi stated in a post accompanying the video.

In the video, Nantaba does not mince her words. She categorically states that Sserubogo’s death was an orchestrated act, executed by specific individuals whose names she bravely mentions, implicating powerful interests. While this admission is sending shockwaves across political and legal circles, it is also reviving public outrage over the controversial events surrounding Sserubogo’s death in June 2021 — just weeks after taking office.

A Shadow Over Kayunga’s Political Integrity

Sserubogo’s death, staged as a hanging, was widely questioned from the beginning. Eyewitness accounts, inconsistencies in the official report, and the speed with which the authorities moved to close the case raised serious doubts among residents, civil society groups, and political commentators.

His crime? Allegedly refusing to participate in well-orchestrated land evictions and illegal land transactions that have increasingly plagued Kayunga district and other parts of Uganda. He was a vocal opponent of the political machinery seeking to displace locals for private interests.

Following his death, a by-election marred by controversy ensued. NUP’s Harriet Nakwedde was widely believed to have won by a clear margin. However, in a move that angered the electorate and opposition observers, the Electoral Commission declared a different candidate the victor — one who was not even in second place based on tallied results shared by independent observers and party agents.

A Call for Justice

“This is not just about Sserubogo,” Kyagulanyi emphasized. “It’s about all those who continue to be victimized, silenced, and even murdered for standing up to oppression. We must continue to demand justice.”

He posed a chilling but pressing question to the nation:

“How many more of us must die before we rise up? When is enough, enough?”

The fresh revelations by Nantaba are expected to prompt renewed calls for an independent investigation into the murder of Sserubogo. Legal experts and human rights advocates are already urging Parliament and the Uganda Human Rights Commission to intervene and reopen the case in light of this new evidence.

Public Reaction and Next Steps

The video has sparked outrage and fresh mobilization among NUP supporters and civil society activists. There are calls for peaceful protests, public dialogues, and the institution of a citizens’ inquest into not only Sserubogo’s death but also other unsolved political killings that remain in limbo.

In a political climate where whistleblowers are often isolated or targeted, Nantaba’s bold admission has the potential to shift the national conversation on justice, accountability, and the protection of elected local leaders.
