Hajjat Kulthum Nabunya Kicks Out Akram Gumisiriza: Prepares For Official Divorce
How It Began I met Mr. Akram Gumisiriza in 2021. Having lost my beloved husband, the late Sheikh Nuhu Muzaata Batte, I was navigating life as a widow and seeking emotional companionship. After prayerful consideration and in accordance with Islamic principles, we entered into a legal and official marriage in 2022.

Uganda Today : Statement from Hajjat Kulthum Nabunya on the Dissolution of Her Marriage to Mr. Akram Gumisiriza
To my fellow Muslim brothers and sisters, religious leaders, cultural leaders, fellow Ugandans, friends, family, the business community, political leaders, and all well-wishers—peace and blessings be upon you.
A Heavy Heart, A Difficult Decision
This is one of the most difficult messages I have ever had to write. It comes from a place of deep introspection and heartfelt sincerity. Today, I choose to speak openly about a deeply personal journey that has, until now, remained private.
How It Began
I met Mr.
Red Flags and Disillusionment
From early on, I began to see signs that the relationship may not unfold as I had hoped. Despite giving the marriage my full effort, emotional investment, and prayers, the challenges persisted and intensified. The mutual understanding, support, and spiritual partnership I had hoped for never fully materialized.
Ending a Union That No Longer Serves Us
After much reflection and numerous attempts to rebuild what was breaking, I have reached the difficult decision to end our marriage. This is not a decision made lightly or in haste. It comes after enduring emotional distance and feeling unheard, unsupported, and unseen—elements vital for a meaningful relationship.
This is not about apportioning blame. It’s an honest recognition that we are no longer aligned in the ways a partnership should be. Holding on would only cause deeper hurt—for both of us.
Parting Ways with Respect
My hope is that we can separate with dignity, fairness, and grace. If there are legal or personal matters to address, I am committed to resolving them respectfully, and I trust the same will be extended in return.
This statement is not made to cause pain, but to bring clarity and closure. I truly wish Mr. Gumisiriza peace and happiness in his future. May we both find strength and purpose as we walk our separate paths.
Honoring the Spiritual Weight of This Decision
Marriage in Islam is a sacred covenant. Ending it carries great emotional and spiritual weight. I did not make this decision without prayer, reflection, and a deep search for peace within my heart.
Even in endings, I believe Allah offers mercy, guidance, and a chance for growth. I pray we both move forward with forgiveness and reverence for the foundation upon which this union was initially built.
Official Divorce Process Underway
To all who supported and prayed for our union, I sincerely regret to inform you that our journey as husband and wife has come to an end, effective immediately. The divorce proceedings will be overseen by Sheikh Abdul Rahman Sserunjogi in coordination with my family, as guided by Islamic tradition and law.
A Final Word of Gratitude and Hope
Though this chapter has closed, I will always cherish the lessons learned and the moments shared. I step into the future with faith in Allah’s plan and with gratitude for the strength He continues to provide.
Sincerely,
Hajj Kulthum Nabunya
