Entebbe, Uganda In a deeply distressing turn of events, a Ugandan couple who had spent the last 30 years living and working in Switzerland has been brutally murdered upon their return to their homeland. David Mutaaga and his wife Deborah were found stabbed to death at their residence in Entebbe, Wakiso District, in what police describe as a cold-blooded and calculated act.

The couple, whose long-awaited return to Uganda marked the beginning of their retirement years, had only recently resettled in Entebbe. Their shocking murder has sent ripples of grief and disbelief through the community, particularly among alumni of King’s College Budo, which has lost a distinguished old boy in the tragic incident.

David Mutaaga 69 was the son of Mr. Kibirige, one of the early headmasters of Budo Junior School, and grew up in Naggalabi, Budo—steeped in the rich heritage of one of Uganda’s most iconic educational institutions. Friends and former classmates remember him as a reserved yet warm-hearted man with deep ties to his homeland, which he had always intended to return to after decades in the diaspora.

According to preliminary investigations by Entebbe police, the bodies of the couple were discovered inside their home with multiple stab wounds. Authorities report that there were no signs of forced entry, no evidence of a break-in, and no tampering with the home’s CCTV system—an unsettling indication that the attackers likely had unrestricted access to the premises.

“We are working tirelessly to trace the couple’s last known movements. We are reviewing CCTV footage and engaging neighbors in the area,” a police source revealed. “At this stage, no arrests have been made, but we are following up all possible leads.”

The gruesome murder has cast a dark cloud over Entebbe, a town known for its quiet charm and proximity to Uganda’s main international airport. It also raises wider concerns about the safety and reintegration of Ugandans returning from the diaspora, many of whom bring with them years of hard-earned savings and dreams of a peaceful retirement in their homeland.

As investigations intensify, the Uganda Police have appealed to the public for information that may assist in bringing the perpetrators to justice. “We urge anyone with relevant knowledge to come forward. No detail is too small,” said police spokespersons.

The Uganda Diaspora community, both at home and abroad, is mourning the loss and demanding accountability. Many have taken to social media expressing grief and outrage, with calls for greater security measures to protect returning citizens.

As funeral arrangements begin, King’s College Budo and its alumni network have expressed their condolences, describing David Mutaaga as a loyal son of the school and a patriot whose life was cut short by unspeakable violence.

The story of David and Deborah—one of love, return, and ultimately betrayal—now stands as a haunting reminder that even homecomings can end in tragedy.
