Kyaggwe have written a memorable chapter in their football history after defeating Gomba 1–0 in the 2026 Buganda Masaza Cup final at Muteesa II Memorial Stadium, Wankulukuku, on Saturday, October 31.

The historic victory crowned Kyaggwe champions of Buganda’s prestigious football competition, in a final that attracted the attention of football lovers from across the kingdom.

The grand finale was presided over by His Majesty the Kabaka of Buganda, Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II, the Sabasajja Kabaka, whose presence added royal significance and prestige to the eagerly awaited sporting occasion.

Kyaggwe Overcome Gomba To Lift The Trophy

The championship encounter brought together two formidable county sides, with Gomba seeking to add another title to its impressive Masaza Cup history, while Kyaggwe were determined to translate their strong campaign into championship glory.

The narrow 1–0 victory handed Kyaggwe the coveted trophy and denied Gomba another opportunity to extend its record as the competition’s most successful county.

The result was particularly significant for Kyaggwe, who had reached the final with ambitions of establishing themselves among the leading footballing counties in Buganda.

Gomba, a five-time champion heading into the final, entered the contest with considerable experience and a reputation for performing on the biggest stage. However, Kyaggwe ultimately had the decisive advantage.

Kyaggwe, meanwhile, were pursuing their maiden Masaza Cup championship, making the victory an important milestone for the county and its supporters.

The two sides had demonstrated impressive determination throughout the tournament, earning their places in the final after navigating a competitive campaign involving Buganda’s counties.

Kyaggwe’s triumph will undoubtedly strengthen the county’s football ambitions and inspire a new generation of players and supporters.

Masaza Cup: More Than A Football Tournament

The Masaza Cup remains one of Buganda Kingdom’s most important sporting and cultural events. Beyond football, the competition brings together communities, promotes county identity, nurtures young talent and strengthens unity among the people of Buganda.

The annual tournament has also provided an important platform for identifying and developing football talent, with many young players using the competition to showcase their abilities.

The presence of the Kabaka at the grand finale further demonstrates the importance the Buganda Kingdom attaches to sports as an instrument of youth empowerment, community mobilisation and cultural unity.

As the 2026 edition comes to an end, Kyaggwe have the honour of carrying the championship crown, while Butambala celebrate a third-place finish.

Congratulations to Kyaggwe, the 2026 Masaza Cup champions!
