The Uganda Police Force is mourning the sudden death of Superintendent of Police Juma Takirambudde, a senior officer described by colleagues as disciplined, committed and deeply devoted to public service.

According to information shared by colleagues and family sources, SP Takirambudde reported for duty on Monday morning in normal health and proceeded with his routine responsibilities at the Police Standards Unit (PSU) offices in Kampala. During the course of the day, however, he reportedly developed sudden illness. A colleague rushed him to Kisenyi Health Centre, where he was pronounced dead.

His passing has sent shockwaves through the police fraternity, particularly among officers who worked alongside him and knew him as a steady and dependable public servant.

The circumstances surrounding the sudden death had not been formally detailed by police authorities by press time.

A life of service

SP Juma Takirambudde belonged to a generation of police officers whose careers were built on quiet discipline rather than public attention. Within the Uganda Police Force, officers who served with him say he carried out his assignments with diligence, loyalty and a deep sense of institutional duty.

At the time of his death, he was attached to the Police Standards Unit, one of the key accountability and internal oversight departments within the Uganda Police Force. The unit is mandated to handle professional standards, disciplinary oversight and internal conduct matters.

Those who interacted with him describe him as calm, professional and committed to the integrity of the institution.

His sudden passing while still actively engaged in official duty has revived public reflection on the physical and emotional demands placed upon officers in uniform.

Duty beyond comfort

For many officers, policing is a profession defined not merely by uniforms and command structures but by daily sacrifice.

Across Uganda, police officers often work long and unpredictable hours, frequently under pressure, often away from family, and at times while navigating personal health and social challenges.

SP Takirambudde’s death has therefore resonated beyond personal grief. To colleagues, it is a reminder of the unseen burdens carried by men and women who remain on duty in service of national security and public order.

His final hours — reporting to work, carrying out assignments, falling ill while still on duty — have become a painful symbol of the demanding nature of police service.

Tributes from colleagues

Within police circles, tributes have continued to emerge.

Many colleagues have remembered him as a patriot whose commitment to service remained evident until his final day.

“He went to work in the morning and served until duty called his end,” one colleague said.

Another officer described him as “a man who served quietly but faithfully.”

The Uganda Police Force has over the years repeatedly emphasized the role of officers who serve not in public limelight but in the daily operational routines that sustain law enforcement institutions.

Family, funeral arrangements awaited

By publication time, official communication regarding burial arrangements had not yet been formally released.

Family members, relatives, friends and colleagues are expected to gather in the coming days to pay their final respects.

His death leaves behind a grieving family and a police institution reflecting on the fragility of life and the enduring demands of service.

Legacy of commitment

While full biographical details of SP Takirambudde’s career were not immediately available at press time, colleagues say his legacy will remain defined by commitment, discipline and readiness to serve.

His passing also renews broader national conversation about officer welfare, health support systems and the human cost of public service.

For the Uganda Police Force, SP Juma Takirambudde now joins the long line of officers remembered not merely for rank, but for duty faithfully rendered.

Gone too soon. Gone, but not forgotten.
