Entebbe — A bizarre early-morning incident at Katabi Traffic Lights in Entebbe has sparked questions after two men were filmed slaughtering a goat in the middle of the road and collecting its blood into a container before leaving the scene.

The footage, reviewed by Uganda Today, shows the two men dressed predominantly in white clothing beside the goat as they carry out what appears to be a deliberate slaughtering exercise in the middle of road.

One of the most striking aspects of the video is that the blood from the slaughtered goat appears to be deliberately collected into a container, which the men subsequently carried away with the carcass of the goat  from the scene. They pushed the goat into a numberless vehicle registered by only the name of Mulungi.

The circumstances surrounding the incident, including why the goat was slaughtered at the junction and what the collected blood was intended for, remain unclear.

A Goat Slaughtered In The Middle Of The Road

Unlike initial descriptions of the footage suggesting that the men were struggling with the animal, closer examination shows that the activity involves the slaughtering of the goat.

The men are seen handling the animal while blood is collected into a container. After completing the activity, the men leave the area carrying the container and slaughtered goat which they stashed into a waiting private car.

Traffic appears to continue moving through the area while the incident is taking place, adding another unusual dimension to the scene.

The footage also appears to show a police pickup passing through the area.

However, the video itself does not identify the men, explain their actions or establish whether any authorities were aware of what was taking place.

Was It A Ritual?

The manner in which the goat was slaughtered, the collection of its blood and the men’s predominantly white clothing are likely to fuel speculation that the incident could have been connected to a traditional, spiritual or religious ritual.

However, the video alone cannot establish that conclusion.

Goats have historically been used in a number of traditional and religious ceremonies in Uganda and elsewhere in Africa. In some traditional practices, animal slaughter and the use of animal blood form part of ceremonies associated with sacrifice, cleansing, appeasement or communication with ancestors.

That cultural background makes the footage noteworthy, but it does not prove that the Katabi incident was a ritual.

There is currently no independently verified information identifying the ceremony, belief system or purpose behind the slaughter.

Why Collect The Blood?

The deliberate collection of the goat’s blood is perhaps the most intriguing aspect of the footage.

Rather than allowing the blood to fall onto the road, the men appear to direct it into a container, which is then carried away.

That raises an obvious question: What was the blood intended for?

Possible explanations could range from a cultural or religious practice to another purpose entirely. Without testimony from the people involved or an official explanation, however, it would be irresponsible to assign a specific meaning to the act.

The container itself may be an important clue if the individuals involved can be identified and questioned about what happened.

The Significance Of The Early-Morning Timing

Information accompanying the circulating video places the incident at approximately 5:00am.

The early-hour timing is significant because some traditional ceremonies in Uganda have historically been conducted before sunrise or around dawn.

Nevertheless, the video does not contain an independently verifiable timestamp establishing that it was exactly 5:00am.

The timing should therefore be treated as reported information rather than an independently confirmed fact.

A Public Road Used As A Slaughtering Site

Whatever the reason for the activity, the decision to slaughter an animal in the middle of a public road raises questions about public safety and the appropriate handling of animals.

Katabi Traffic Lights is an important road junction serving traffic in the Entebbe area, making the presence of a slaughtering activity on the carriageway particularly unusual.

Motorists approaching the scene would have had to negotiate around the activity while the men were handling the animal.

Uganda’s road-safety laws place restrictions on activities that obstruct or interfere with the normal use of public roads, while animal-welfare laws also regulate the treatment and slaughter of animals.

Whether any offence occurred in this particular case, however, would require an assessment of the full circumstances by the relevant authorities.

Katabi And The Shadow Of Ritual-Killing Fears

The incident may attract heightened public attention because Katabi has previously featured in national discussions surrounding allegations of ritual  women killings.

In previous years, authorities investigated a number of killings in the wider Katabi and Nansana areas amid public speculation about ritual motives.

Those historical incidents, however, should not be used as evidence that the present goat slaughter was connected to ritual activity.

There is currently no established link between the footage and any criminal investigation.

What Happened To The Goat?

The footage appears to show the goat being deliberately slaughtered, with its blood collected before the men leave the area.

Equally unclear is whether the slaughter was connected to a private ceremony, traditional practice, religious observance, commercial activity or another purpose.

These unanswered questions about the motive make eyewitness accounts and an official explanation particularly important.

Authorities Could Help Solve The Mystery

The presence of a police vehicle in the footage raises another question: whether law enforcement officers saw the activity or subsequently became aware of it.

At the time of publication, Uganda Today has not established an official police account identifying the men or explaining why the goat was slaughtered at Katabi Traffic Lights.

The safest conclusion from the available evidence is therefore straightforward:

Two men were filmed slaughtering a goat at or near Katabi Traffic Lights, apparently collecting its blood in a container and subsequently carrying the container and the goat away. The purpose of the slaughter and the intended use of the blood remain unconfirmed.

A Strange Dawn Scene That Has Left Questions

What might have been an ordinary early morning at one of Entebbe’s busy road junctions instead became the setting for an unusual spectacle: two men, a slaughtered goat, a container collecting its blood and a public road as the backdrop.

Whether the scene was part of a traditional ceremony, a religious practice or something else remains a question for the people involved and, potentially, the authorities to answer.

For now, the video provides evidence of what happened, but not necessarily why it happened.

Uganda Today will seek further information from relevant authorities and eyewitnesses if additional details emerge.
