Miss Uganda 2026/27, Almorie Nagayi Sophia, is attracting attention beyond the beauty pageant stage following recognition of her participation in a United States-backed foreign policy and leadership programme, highlighting her interest in diplomacy, international relations and youth leadership.

Nagayi, 19, has combined her ambitions in pageantry with an interest in global affairs, having participated in the Foreign Policy and Leadership Programme and the Early Careers Foreign Policy Analysis programme associated with the American Center Kampala and the United States Embassy in Uganda in 2025.

Miss Uganda Almorie Naggayi, in 2025, graduated from American Centre’s Foreign Policy Early Careers Programme

Her graduation from the 2025 Foreign Policy Early Careers programme represents an important milestone in her development, adding policy and diplomatic exposure to a profile that already includes modelling, competitive swimming and public speaking.

In a message reflecting on her achievement, Naggayi expressed gratitude to the US Embassy in Uganda and the American Center for providing young people with opportunities to learn, grow and pursue their ambitions. She described the achievement as a dream come true and shared the message: “Greatness isn’t given, it’s earned.”

From The American Center To The World Of Diplomacy

The programme is significant because it exposes young Ugandans to issues that shape international relations, including diplomacy, foreign policy decision-making, strategic leadership and Uganda’s engagement with other countries.

The Early Careers Foreign Policy programme is associated with the US Embassy Kampala, the American Center Kampala, the Center for Policy and Strategic Studies (CPSS) and the Lincoln Institute of Diplomacy and International Relations.

The broader objective is to help emerging leaders develop the knowledge and skills required to understand global affairs and participate more effectively in policy discussions.

Naggayi’s participation is particularly interesting because it demonstrates how young people can pursue interests in several fields simultaneously. Her experience in pageantry offers opportunities to develop public speaking, communication and representation skills, while foreign policy training provides a different perspective on leadership and international cooperation.

However, graduation from a short professional development programme should not be confused with obtaining a university degree in international relations or qualifying as a career diplomat.

A Picture Worth A Thousand Words: Miss Uganda And Her Grandmother

Miss Uganda Almorie Nagayi shares a memorable runway moment with her maternal grandmother, Josephine Nakaliisa Lukoma, popularly known as Jjajja Josephine, during the Miss Uganda 2026 Top Model night.

One of the most touching moments in Nagayi’s pageant journey came when she chose to walk on the runway with her grandmother, 70-year-old Josephine Nakaliisa Lukoma.

The appearance took place during the Miss Uganda 2026 Top Model night, where contestants were invited to walk with someone special in their lives.

Rather than selecting a celebrity, Naggayi chose her grandmother, whom she has described as a significant influence in her life. The gesture transformed a fashion presentation into a celebration of family, gratitude and intergenerational bonds.

The moment also carries a family history: Naggayi’s mother, Rachael Mwagale, previously contested for Miss Uganda at the age of 19. Her daughter, now 19, has gone on to win the national crown, creating a remarkable connection across three generations of women.

A New Queen With Ambitions Beyond Beauty

Naggayi was crowned Miss Uganda 2026/27 at the grand finale held at Sheraton Kampala Hotel on October 11, 2026. She will represent Uganda at Miss World 2027, scheduled to take place in Tanzania.

Her Beauty With a Purpose initiative focuses on financial literacy and vocational training for women and girls, with the aim of helping beneficiaries develop practical skills, build small businesses and achieve greater financial independence.

These ambitions provide an opportunity for Naggayi to use her public platform to advocate for young women’s empowerment while continuing to develop her interests in diplomacy and international relations.

Her story also carries a message for young Ugandans: leadership can be developed through education, practical experience, mentorship and a willingness to explore opportunities beyond one’s immediate profession.

Conclusion: More Than A Beauty Queen

The recognition of Almorie Naggayi’s foreign policy programme graduation adds another dimension to the story of Uganda’s new beauty queen.

From the classroom and leadership programmes to the international pageant stage, her journey reflects the increasingly diverse interests of young people who aspire to contribute to society in different ways.

Her grandmother’s appearance beside her on the runway adds a personal touch to that story, reminding audiences that behind public achievements are families, mentors and relationships that help shape individual ambitions.

As she prepares for Miss World 2027, Naggayi has an opportunity to combine her growing public profile with meaningful advocacy for women and girls in Uganda.
