John Sanyu Katuramu Amooti Released

The former Prime Minister of Tooro Kingdom John Sanyu Katuramu Amooti has today September 11th 2021 been released from the confines of Luzira Maximum Prison. This follows a series of protracted negotiations between his family and government.

Katuramu was imprisoned 20 years ago after being found guilty of masterminding the killing of the late prince of Tooro Kijanangoma. Kijanangoma was at the forefront of pursuing the truth pertaining to the mysterious death of Omukama Patrick Mathew Olimi Kaboyo. Kijanangoma had persistently stuck his head in pursuance of the premier accusing him of using his position to solicit for funds purportedly for the development of the Kingdom yet he was diverting the money to his personal businesses. The death of Olimi led to the enthronement of his then 3 year old son King of Tooro, His Majesty Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru currently taking the reigns of the Kingdom.

Who is Katuramu?

Katuramu was appointed (Omuhikirwa) Prime minister of Tooro by the late Omukama Olimi Kaboyo in 1993, this position brought the hitherto quite business man to the environs of the palace. Prior to this, Katuramu had studied his ordinary level school certificate at Mvara High School in Arua and advanced for his Advanced level school Certificate at Nyakasura School in Forportal. He completed his studies at national college of Business School Nakawa, now Makerere University Business School. He established his first business in Kasese.

In Kampala Katuramu ran one of the first Forex Bureaus called Give & Take that was housed at Uganda House. He actively engaged his energy in running several petrol stations in addition to managing coffee and timber exportation and real estate business.

John Sanyu Katuramu, Sources from the reformation Centre Luzira intimate that, he is a reformed man who has turned his life to Jesus. Claims are abound that once he settles in society, he intends to preach the word of God. Katuramu is believed to have considerably funded the struggle that brought president Tibuhaburwa to power and it is upon this basis that his family sought for his parole from the president. The president advised them to engage stakeholders in Tooro whose 3 years negotiations yielded his eventual release. Katuramu now follows in the footsteps of Rwakasisi and Abdallah Nasuru of Bbombo who have both benefited from president Tibuhaburwa’s constitutional right of prisoner’s parole.

Katuramu was introduced to the late King Patrick Olimi Kaboyo by Princess Elizabeth Bagaya who is a sister to the late King. At the time of the restoration of Kingdoms in Uganda, Katuramu had arguably become a household personality and a very close friend to the King. He had also married a cousin to the King.
