UgandaToday: Dr. Ssemugenyi Unveils “Music Greening” With Maiden Simba Omuti Concert

KAMPALA — Uganda is set for a historic fusion of entertainment and environmental advocacy as renowned conservationist Dr. Ssemugenyi launches the country’s first-ever green music concert, code-named Simba Omuti. The groundbreaking event is scheduled to take place on December 20, 2025, at the Mellennium Park Lugogo   Kampala.

The Simba Omuti concert marks the official introduction of what Dr. Ssemugenyi has coined “Music Greening” — a strategy that merges the power of music with community-driven environmental restoration. The initiative seeks to make entertainment a vehicle for climate action, youth empowerment, and national re-greening efforts.

Dr. Ssemugenyi, a global award-winning environmentalist, has earned international recognition for his innovative Every Birthday Tree Day Initiative (EBTDI). The initiative encourages Ugandans to commemorate their birthdays by planting a number of trees equivalent to the age they are celebrating.

Through this simple yet powerful approach, thousands of trees have been planted across the country, transforming birthdays into annual acts of conservation.

Beyond environmental leadership, Dr. Ssemugenyi is also celebrated for his philanthropic work, especially in supporting young learners. He provides bursary sponsorships to students across various schools, empowering vulnerable children and promoting education as part of his broader community-impact mission.

100 Students to Receive Bursaries at the Green Concert
In line with his commitment to youth empowerment, Dr. Ssemugenyi has announced that 100 students whose parents attend the Simba Omuti concert will receive full bursaries.

This gesture aims to underscore the concert’s dual mission: nurturing the environment and uplifting communities.

“We want Ugandans to understand that conservation is not just about planting trees — it is about securing the future of our children,” he noted during the project unveiling. “Music brings people together, and that unity can drive national change.”

A Landmark Moment for Uganda’s Entertainment and Conservation Sectors
The Simba Omuti concert is expected to draw thousands, including environmental advocates, entertainment lovers, youth groups, and policymakers. It will feature performances by top Ugandan artistes, each aligning their showcase with the environmental message of the night.

The event will also include symbolic tree-planting sessions, green exhibitions, and pledges from individuals and corporate entities looking to join the EBTDI movement.

With Simba Omuti, Dr. Ssemugenyi positions Uganda as a potential continental leader in integrating entertainment with climate action — a model that could redefine how African societies mobilize for environmental protection.
