About Anita Among

Arguably Among can be described as a go getter who gets focused on any task until she achieves it. Among attained her university education from  Kampala International University and Makerere University . Among belongs to the National Resistance Movement. Before becoming a Speaker of Parliament, she had previously worked for Centenary Bank and Kampala International University; The go getter Among just like her Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa, eked her political limelight from Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) until the elections of 2016.

Among caught President Museveni’s eye during the COVID-19 pandemic relief contributions when she contributed loads of food for her Bukedea constituents. She switched her political allegiance from FDC to NRM, a move that paid off with dividends culminating into assuming Speakership position after the death of Speaker Jacob Oulanya. She attained this with unwavering support of the president.

News About Pregnancy And Pope’s Prayers

Among intimated about expecting during her meeting with the Holy father in Vatican in August 2023. During this meeting, she asked the Pope to bless her because she was an expectant mother. Since Among didn’t show any physical signs of an expecting woman during that time and there after until the announcement of twins birth, her physical appearance portrayed a figure without any bump on her tummy, caused speculation among the general public that the babies delivered could have been brought to life through surrogacy!. Anita subscribes to the Catholic faith while her husband Moses Magogo is a practicing Muslim.

Two members of parliament Ssemujju Ibrahim Nganda for Kira Municipality and Francis Butebi Zaake of Mityana vehemently denied having seen their Speaker with a baby bump. This accentuated the surrogacy speculation further.

What Is Surrogacy?

Surrogacy is a method of assisted reproduction where a woman carries and gives birth to a child for another person or couple who are unable to conceive or carry a pregnancy to term. There are two main types of surrogacy:

  1. Traditional surrogacy: In this arrangement, the surrogate mother’s own egg is fertilized with the intended father’s sperm or donor sperm through artificial insemination. As a result, the surrogate is both the biological and gestational mother of the child.
  2. Gestational surrogacy: In this more common form of surrogacy, the embryo is created using the egg and sperm of the intended parents or donors through in vitro fertilization (IVF). The embryo is then implanted

What Does The Catholic Church Say About Surrogacy?

The Catholic Church generally does not support surrogacy. The Vatican’s Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, under Pope Francis, released an instruction in 2019 titled “Samaritanus bonus” that reiterated the Catholic Church’s opposition to surrogacy. This document emphasized the Church’s position that surrogacy violates the dignity of the human person and the child’s right to be conceived, carried, and brought into the world within a marriage.

According to Catholic teaching, procreation should occur through the marital act, and surrogacy is seen as a disruption of the natural order of procreation and family life. The Church holds that every child has the right to be conceived as the result of an act of love of the spouses and to be the fruit of that act.

All said and done, nobody can claim to be a paragon on this planet earth, we at Uganda Today wish to unreservedly and wholeheartedly congratulate the right honourable Speaker upon bringing to life a pair of twins. We wish them good life of abundance.
