Veteran Journalist Harry Sagara Mocks NRM’s Rosemary Sseninde Over NUP Brutality Remarks

With the kind of reasoning she exhibits, one wonders if her very existence was an unfortunate biological accident—perhaps a failed withdrawal attempt by her father that left her with a damaged brain,” Sagara stated sarcastically, in a remark that has since gone viral on social media.

By Uganda Today News Desk

Kampala – Veteran journalist Harry Sagara has fired back at the National Resistance Movement (NRM) chief mobiliser, Muky. Rosemary Sseninde, over her controversial remarks dismissing the brutality against National Unity Platform (NUP) supporters as a mere gimmick to arouse voter sympathy.

Sseninde, in a recent statement, claimed that reports of violence meted out to NUP supporters by the Joint Anti-Terrorism Taskforce (JATT) were exaggerated political theatrics aimed at gaining public sympathy. Her comments sparked outrage among opposition supporters and human rights activists who have condemned the state’s heavy-handed approach in the Kawempe North by-election campaigns.

JATT and police officers forcibly arrest an NUP supporter heading to Kawempe ku Ttaano for a campaign rally.

Harry Sagara’s Scathing Response

Renowned for his sharp wit and fearless commentary, Sagara did not hold back in his response. In a scornful attack, he ridiculed Sseninde, questioning her ability to comprehend the gravity of state-sponsored violence.

“With the kind of reasoning she exhibits, one wonders if her very existence was an unfortunate biological accident—perhaps a failed withdrawal attempt by her father that left her with a damaged brain,” Sagara stated sarcastically, in a remark that has since gone viral on social media.

His comments have fueled an already heated political atmosphere, with both NUP and NRM supporters engaging in fierce online debates over the increasing brutality against opposition members and the ruling party’s dismissive stance.

Rising Political Tensions in Kawempe North

The Kawempe North by-election campaigns have been marred by reports of arrests, beatings, and intimidation of NUP supporters. Security forces, including JATT operatives, have been accused of unleashing violence on opposition members as they rally support for their candidate, Elias Nalukoola Luyimbazi.

Human rights organizations have called for an independent investigation into the use of excessive force by security agencies, with concerns that the election environment is far from free and fair.

Political Fallout and Reactions

While some NRM loyalists have defended Sseninde’s remarks, others within the ruling party have remained silent, perhaps wary of the growing political backlash. Meanwhile, opposition figures, including NUP leader Robert Kyagulanyi (Bobi Wine), have reiterated that the government’s crackdown on their supporters is an attempt to instill fear and suppress the will of the people.

As the by-election date draws closer, tensions remain high, with fears that more violence could erupt if authorities continue to use force to stifle opposition activities.

What’s Next?

The exchange between Sagara and Sseninde is just one of many instances highlighting the deep political divide in Uganda. Whether the government will address concerns of brutality or continue dismissing them as propaganda remains to be seen. One thing is certain—Uganda’s political landscape remains as volatile as ever.
