Uganda Today Edition: ULS President Isaac Ssemakadde Accused by Twin Sisters of Exploitation and Broken Promises

Embattled Uganda Law Society (ULS) President, Isaac Ssemakadde, is once again in the eye of a storm following explosive allegations by twin sisters Yvonne Babirye and Cynthia Nakato, who accuse him of professional exploitation and inappropriate advances under the guise of mentorship and employment.
According to Babirye—a mother of three girls—Ssemakadde allegedly made romantic overtures toward her sister Nakato during a ULS weekend retreat on October 11, 2024, remarking suggestively: “How come you don’t have kids? I am here.” Nakato, who reportedly felt insulted by the insinuation, rebuffed the comment and made her displeasure clear.
In a surprising twist, Ssemakadde allegedly shifted his attention to Babirye two months later in December 2024, expressing what she describes as “romantic interest.” Despite warnings from her sister about the ethical implications of entangling with her boss, Babirye says she eventually yielded to his advances—a decision she now regrets.
“Cynthia advised against pursuing any such relationship, emphasizing that it would be unprofessional and a conflict of interest,” Babirye recounts. “Looking back, I wish I had listened.”
At the heart of the dispute is a verbal agreement allegedly made by Ssemakadde to compensate the sisters with UGX 5,000,000 monthly, in exchange for their services as goodwill ambassadors during his 2024 ULS presidential campaign and as employees in his private legal ventures. Babirye claims that after she became romantically involved with him, the promised support never materialized.
Babirye regrettably says, with her 3 children, she had moved in to stay with Ssemakadde before he moved to Rwanda in his endeavours to circumvent the court arrest warrant that was hanging over his head. In a tone full of surprise and sadness, Babirye says Ssemakadde gave her an ultimatum of just 1 week to vacate his house. She is now appealing to well wishers to come to her rescue so that she can secure relocation. Any assistance can be remitted on +256 754 847 982 registered in the names of Mildred Nankya
Worse still, she alleges that Ssemakadde, upon sensing resistance and disapproval from Nakato, turned verbally abusive. Babirye says in one of his communications to her, Ssemakadde branded them “useless whores,” “pathetic scammers,” “repulsive,” and “unstable”
The sisters rose to national prominence in 2024 after leading a bold anti-corruption demonstration to Parliament, which reportedly caught the attention of President Yoweri Museveni. That same momentum, Babirye says, they attracted Ssemakadde too, who later offered them roles in both his professional and political endeavors.
Despite the gravity of the allegations, Ssemakadde has not yet issued a public response to the claims. Uganda Today has reached out to the Vice Treasurer Uganda Law Society for comment, but expressed total ignorance about the twins engagement with their president.
The situation has ignited debate online and within legal circles, with some calling for an independent ethics committee to review the matter, especially given the power dynamics and implications for ULS’s leadership integrity.
As the controversy unfolds, the twin sisters maintain that their goal is not vengeance but to warn other young women against predatory behavior in professional environments masked as mentorship.
