Uganda Today Edition: Uganda Institute of Communications Technology to Host Inaugural Alumni Reunion

The Uganda Institute of Information and Communications Technology (UICT) is set to host its first-ever alumni reunion on February 22, 2025, in a historic event aimed at fostering connections, professional growth, and development among its graduates.

Organized by the Uganda Institute of Information and Communications Technology Alumni Association (UICTAA), the event, dubbed the “Homing Event,” will bring together former students of the institute for a day of celebration, networking, and opportunities for professional advancement.

The reunion, slated to begin at 12:00 Noon, will serve as a pivotal moment to:

  1. Strengthen ties between UICT and its alumni association, ensuring a long-lasting relationship.
  2. Encourage alumni to remain involved with their alma mater while providing platforms for continuous professional growth.
  3. Revive the UICT Alumni Association, enabling it to become an active and impactful body.
  4. Promote career development by connecting alumni with industry leaders, mentorship opportunities, and skills-based training.
  5. Enhance social networks and foster a strong sense of community among former students.
  6. Support the sustainable development of the institute through collaborative alumni initiatives.

A Hub for Skills-Based ICT Training

UICT is a government institution renowned for its focus on middle-level, skills-based ICT training. Offering practical-oriented programs at the certificate and diploma levels, UICT has been instrumental in shaping professionals for Uganda’s growing ICT industry. Over the years, its graduates have made notable contributions across various sectors, and this reunion aims to celebrate those achievements while charting the path forward.

A Day of Activities and Opportunities

The day’s program will feature a range of activities, including keynote addresses from prominent alumni and industry leaders, career development workshops, panel discussions, and a networking mixer. Attendees will have the opportunity to share their experiences, gain insights into emerging ICT trends, and explore ways to give back to the institution that laid their professional foundations.

Building a Legacy

Speaking ahead of the event, Mr. Patrick Kakeeto a representative of UICTAA, now working with the Office of the Prime Minister, emphasized the importance of alumni engagement in driving institutional growth:
“This reunion is more than a gathering—it’s about building a legacy. It’s an opportunity for us to come together, share ideas, and ensure that UICT continues to be a hub of excellence in ICT training.”

The event is open to all UICT Old Boys and Girls (OBs/OGs), and the organizers are calling on alumni to register and participate in shaping the future of their alma mater.
