Uganda Today Edition: UFDO on Familiarisation Tour in Tanzania to Strengthen Collaboration
The United Federal Democratic Organisation (UFDOP), under the leadership of its President Frank Bulira Kabinga, is currently on a familiarisation tour of Tanzania aimed at exploring avenues for deeper collaboration between the Federal Republic of Tanzania and UFDO.
In a statement shared with www.ugandatoday.co.ug, the organisation announced its arrival in Tanzania, stating:
“We have safely landed in the Republic of Tanzania in solidarity with the Safari Ya Ushindi Presidential Campaign, for our partner Ruling Party CCM – Chama cha Mapinduzi & President Mama Samia Suluhu.”
A Strategic Partnership
Tanzania remains a vital ally for Uganda, with both nations enjoying long standing fraternal relations dating back to their independence in the 1960s. Over the decades, this partnership has extended across critical sectors, including culture, trade, agriculture, energy, security, and education.
Notably, the historical ties between Uganda and Tanzania were solidified during the October 1978-79 Kagera War. After Ugandan forces under the leadership of Idi Amin invaded Tanzania’s Kagera region, Tanzania mounted a counter-offensive, mobilizing its army and exiled Ugandans within its borders. This culminated in the overthrow of Amin’s regime and the restoration of stability in Uganda.
Strengthening Regional Solidarity
The UFDO delegation is engaging with officials from Chama cha Mapinduzi (CCM), Tanzania’s ruling party, and supporting President Mama Samia Suluhu’s Safari Ya Ushindi campaign. This gesture underscores the organisation’s commitment to regional solidarity and cooperation.
In addition to political collaboration, UFDO aims to learn from Tanzania’s progress in governance, infrastructure development, and resource management to implement similar strategies in Uganda.
