Muhikirwa Calls For King Oyo Stadium To Be Built And Named After The Late Monarch
Tooro Kingdom has appealed to President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni to honour a longstanding government pledge to construct the King Oyo Stadium, following the death of His Majesty Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru IV.
The appeal was made by Tooro Kingdom Muhikirwa, Calvin Armstrong Rwomiire Akiiki, in a message posted on his official X handle, @toorokingdompm.
Rwomiire urged President Museveni to use the moment to fulfill the commitment made to Tooro and turn the proposed stadium into a lasting sporting and development legacy for the people of the kingdom.
King Oyo Offered 50 Acres Of His Land
According to the Muhikirwa, the late King Oyo personally responded when government called upon landowners to provide land for the proposed stadium.
He said the Omukama offered 50 acres of his own land because he believed in the project and hoped to see a modern sporting facility established for his people.
“His Majesty personally answered that call by offering 50 acres of his own land,” Rwomiire said.
He added that the late monarch’s contribution demonstrated his commitment to the development of Tooro and his desire to create opportunities for young people through sport.
A Lasting Tribute To The Late King
The Muhikirwa argued that completing the stadium and naming it after the late Omukama would provide an enduring tribute to a monarch who sacrificed his own land for the project.
He said the facility would not only preserve King Oyo’s memory but also translate his generosity and vision into a tangible legacy for future generations.
“Completing this stadium and naming it in his honour would be a fitting and lasting tribute to a King who gave his own land to make the project possible,” Rwomiire stated.
Stadium Could Boost Youth And Sports Development
Beyond its symbolic importance, the proposed King Oyo Stadium could become an important sporting and development facility for Tooro and Uganda more broadly.
Rwomiire said its completion would create opportunities for young people in the region while strengthening the country’s sporting infrastructure.

He said fulfilling the commitment would carry significant meaning for the people of Tooro, particularly following the passing of the young monarch.
“It would mean a great deal to the people of Tooro and would ensure that His Majesty’s generosity, vision and love for his people live on for generations,” Rwomiire said.
The appeal was also directed to the wider Tooro Kingdom leadership, with Rwomiire tagging the official Tooro Kingdom account and General Muhoozi Kainerugaba in his message.
