KAMPALA, UGANDA – In a remarkable display of prompt and effective enforcement, the Uganda Police Traffic Department, under the leadership of Head Traffic Officer Kananura Michael, today January 14, 2025, upon reading Uganda Today breaking news item  thwarted a reckless bus driver who had grossly overloaded his vehicle on the Kampala-Kabale route.

The daring intervention, which has been hailed as a model for road traffic enforcement in Uganda, comes as a welcome respite for road users who have long complained about the flagrant disregard for road safety by some transport operators. According to eyewitnesses, the bus was carrying an excessive number of passengers, posing a significant risk to the lives of both the passengers and other road users.

Acting swiftly on credible intelligence, Head Traffic Officer Kananura Michael and his team deployed a task force to intercept the errant bus. At around 03:00 pm January 14, 2025 afternoon, the team successfully spotted the bus heading towards Kyazanga from Kabale. Upon apprehending the driver, they found that the vehicle was indeed grossly overloaded, with numerous passengers packed into the bus in a manner that was both unsafe and illegal.

Under the keen eye of Head Traffic Officer Kananura Michael, his team swiftly removed the excess passengers, who were safely transported to a safer location. The  conductor, however, was not as fortunate, facing immediate detention for his blatant disregard of traffic laws.

“It’s a clear demonstration of the resolve of the Uganda Police Force to maintain road discipline and ensure that our roads are safe for all users,” a statement from the Police Traffic Department read. “We urge all transport operators to adhere to the set standards and regulations governing the industry, and we will leave no stone unturned in enforcing these laws.”

The swift action by Head Traffic Officer Kananura Michael and his team has earned him praise from the public, who have expressed gratitude for the bravery and dedication displayed in this operation.
