In a bold and proactive move, Uganda’s Speaker of Parliament, Anita Annet Among,, called for the immediate rehabilitation of the Mityana–Mubende–Kyegegwa–Kyenjojo road after personally assessing its deteriorating condition.

Addressing the the subjects of King Oyo during celebrations to mark the 30th anniversary of his reign, Among shared that while His Excellency, President Yoweri Museveni, had offered her the use of a helicopter for her travel, to represent him at the occasion, she chose to make the journey by road. The Speaker explained that her decision was driven by her desire to experience firsthand the condition of the road, which has long been a source of concern for locals.

“Upon learning of the poor state of the Mityana–Mubende–Kyegegwa–Kyenjojo road, I decided to travel by road so I could fully understand the challenges the people face. It is evident that the road is in dire need of rehabilitation,” Among stated.

The Mityana–Mubende–Kyegegwa–Kyenjojo road, a vital link for communities in central and western Uganda, has become increasingly difficult to navigate due to severe potholes, erosion, and inadequate drainage. The Speaker highlighted that the current state of the road not only poses risks to the safety of travelers but also significantly hampers economic activities in the region.

In response to the urgent need for repairs, Among instructed the Minister of Finance, who accompanied her on the trip, to allocate the necessary funds for the road’s rehabilitation within the next two weeks. “We cannot afford to delay any longer. I have directed the Minister of Finance to ensure that the funds are secured promptly so we can begin work on this critical infrastructure without any further setbacks,” she emphasized.
