UgandaToday: NUP’s Nakajubi Efrance Becomes Uganda’s Youngest Elected Female Local Council Leader
KASSANDA – Uganda has registered a new milestone in youth leadership following the election of 18-year-old Nakajubi Efrance as the youngest elected female local council leader in the country.
Nakajubi, a member of the National Unity Platform (NUP), was elected Kansala (female councillor) representing Kasambya and Kayunga villages in Kiganda Sub-county, Kassanda District, located in the greater Ssingo region.
At just 18 years old, Nakajubi is currently a Senior Four student at Blessed High School Kiganda. Her election has been widely celebrated by residents and political observers as a powerful symbol of youth inclusion, women’s empowerment, and the growing participation of young people in Uganda’s democratic processes.
Local leaders and community members described Nakajubi as a focused, disciplined, and courageous young woman who demonstrated exceptional confidence and clarity of purpose throughout her campaign. Her message reportedly centered on improving youth engagement, promoting education, strengthening community sanitation, and advocating for better services at the grassroots level.
Political analysts say Nakajubi’s victory reflects a broader shift in Uganda’s political landscape, where young voters are increasingly placing their trust in fellow youth leaders who understand their everyday challenges.
Speaking after her victory, Nakajubi reportedly expressed gratitude to voters for entrusting her with leadership at such a young age and pledged to serve with integrity, humility, and dedication. She also encouraged fellow young people, especially girls, to believe in themselves and actively participate in leadership.
Her election adds to a growing list of young Ugandans stepping into public office and challenging long-held perceptions about age and leadership.
