Museveni – Kabaka Split Over Huge Cash

The Kabaka of Buganda and President Museveni have had their lows and highs ever since the revival of Buganda Kingdom which former President Apollo Milton Obote had abolished in 1966.

Uganda Today: Museveni, Kabaka Split Over Huge Cash Deal
The always on and off cordial relations between President Yoweri Museveni and Kabaka of Buganda, Ronald Mutebi II, have reached another low pitch over huge cash.

Kabaka is bitter with the head of state for twice meeting his clan chiefs dead in the night without his consent. The clans heads led by Yusuf Mbirozankya were led to State House by the minister of state for information, Joyce Ssebugwaawo. During their meeting with the son of Kaguta, the clan heads were given sh11bn to facilitate their intended purchase of a prime plot of land in Mengo near the kingdom headquarters.

The clan heads hope to set up a commercial building to generate income for their respective clans. The clan heads had complained to Museveni that Kabaka had disregarded their requests to him for a donation of piece of land to put up a commercial building. They also complained to Museveni that they have found it very hard to have audience with Kabaka to discuss issues related to clans.

The clan heads fault Katikkiro Charles Mayega for frustrating  every move aimed at freely interacting with their Kabaka and table their pertinent concerns. They claim that Mayega is paranoid of them disclosing to Kabaka the failures of Mayega since he became katikkiro.

The simmering bad relationship between Museveni and Kabaka has generated hullabaloo on social media ignited by Dan Muliika Kabaka’s advisor and former Katikkiro’s open criticism to clan heads and Museveni’s unwarranted actions. Muliika is known for his contempt for Museveni.
