Uganda Today:Museveni Assigns Gen. Saleh, Hajat Namyalo With New Duties
President Yoweri Museveni has assigned his brother Gen. Salim Saleh and Hajat Hadijah Namyalo with the compilation of all the historical information regarding the series of deadliest battles the Narional Resistance Army (NRA) fought at Katonga Bridge in 1985.
The Katonga battles which preceded the NRA takeover of state power in January 1986, were fought at Katonga Bridge on Kampala-Masaka Highway. Saleh was the overall commander of the offensives and below him were Pecos Kutesa, Ahmed Kashilling, Fred Mugisha and Stephen Kashaka. Only Saleh and Kashaka are surviving.
On September 8 this year, Museveni will be celebrating his 79th birthday at Kololo and has chosen to commemorate the NRA heroes that fought at Katonga. At the moment, Saleh and Namyalo are gathering all the details about how the fighters that were involved and their whereabouts. Museveni wants the surviving fighters and their children identified so that they are involved in the money economy through Parish Development Model and Emyooga.
Saleh is the younger brother of President Museveni, while Namyalo is the administrator of Museveni’s office in his capacity as the national chairman of the National Resistance Army (NRM).
