When contacted for comment, Otafiire dismissed the matter outright, distancing himself from social media controversies.

“I have nothing to do with social media news. Who is going to detain me and for what reason?” he remarked, reportedly laughing sarcastically before ending the call.

His response quickly became a focal point of discussion, with many interpreting it as a reflection of internal political confidence — or fatigue with online political theatrics.

Online Rhetoric and Public Discourse

The posts, some now deleted have since fueled broader conversations about the role of social media in Uganda’s politics, especially when statements originate from high-profile figures with military or governmental influence.
