Muhoozi Kainerugaba’s Bizarre Tweet  On Human Rights Commission Demand For Eddie Mutwe’s Release

Kyagulanyi’s call to action is the strongest statement yet from the National Unity Platform (NUP) leadership since Eddie Mutwe’s disappearance, and it underscores growing tensions between the opposition and the ruling family.

KAMPALA — First Son and Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba has once again ignited national and international outrage after tweeting a scathing response to a Release Order issued by the Uganda Human Rights Commission (UHRC) chairperson Hon. Mariam Wangadya, demanding the unconditional release of Edward Ssebuufu alias Eddie Mutwe.

In a shocking tweet posted Thursday, Muhoozi wrote:

“LOL! If these people value the lives we gave them they MUST NEVER even think of sending me such a STUPID letter again! This is their last warning! I expect an apology.”

The tweet was posted alongside a copy of the UHRC letter dated May 2, 2025, and addressed to the Chief of Defence Forces, ordering the immediate release of Eddie Mutwe, who had been in illegal custody since April 26, 2025.

“The Lives We Gave Them”: Outrage Over Authoritarian Tone

Muhoozi’s phrasing — “the lives we gave them” — has particularly shocked many Ugandans, triggering accusations of megalomania, militarism, and blatant disregard for constitutional rights.

Human rights advocates, political observers, and the opposition have described the tweet as both threatening and deeply unpatriotic, especially coming from a serving military officer and public figure.

Eddie Mutwe Held in Basement “Learning Runyankore”

The drama began after Muhoozi, in his characteristic bizarre tweets had earlier in the most sarcastic tribalistic manner, casually revealed that Eddie Mutwe, a close aide to opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu (Bobi Wine), was being held in his basement, claiming it was for “teaching him Runyankore.”

The revelation sent shockwaves across the political landscape, with the Uganda Human Rights Commission swiftly acting on its constitutional mandate under Article 53(2)(a) to issue a formal release order, which Muhoozi has now ridiculed publicly.

Kyagulanyi Responds: “Until We Rise Up!”

Reacting to the unfolding saga, Bobi Wine posted a fiery response on X (formerly Twitter):

“So Museveni and his brutal son believe that they gave us the lives we have. After seeing this, you then understand why they treat us the way they do.
UNTIL WE RISE UP AND PUT AN END TO THIS MADNESS. #FreeUganda”

Kyagulanyi’s call to action is the strongest statement yet from the National Unity Platform (NUP) leadership since Eddie Mutwe’s disappearance, and it underscores growing tensions between the opposition and the ruling family.

Silence from State Institutions

So far, neither the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) nor the Ministry of Defence has issued any formal response to Muhoozi’s admission of unlawful detention or his threatening tweet to a constitutional body.

Legal experts have called on Parliament’s Committee on Human Rights to summon Muhoozi for his remarks, while others argue this underscores the de facto military dictatorship under President Museveni’s regime.

What Next for UHRC?

It remains unclear whether the Uganda Human Rights Commission will press forward with contempt proceedings as threatened in the release order. The legal question remains: Can a serving general who mocks a constitutional directive be held accountable under Ugandan law?

For now, Uganda watches — some in horror, others in helplessness — as one man tweets from a throne of unchecked power, while the rest of the nation grapples with the consequences.
