Kyagulanyi On Kampala Fake Bombs. The Army Has a Score in Its Rank For This Vice

In the recent days, the CDF ordered arrest of a score of senior army intelligence officers who were the architects of these fake bombs. “For years, we have warned that the regime fabricates or exaggerates such incidents to justify its violent repression of opposition supporters,” Kyagulanyi stated. “Today, the regime’s own admissions further validate what we have always known: that it is the chief architect of these manufactured threats.”

NUP President Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu addresses the media on July 2, 2025, accusing security forces of orchestrating fake bomb threats and calling for internal party reforms.

KAMPALA — National Unity Platform (NUP) President Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine, has come out strongly against what he described as state-sponsored terrorism and political persecution orchestrated by Uganda’s security agencies.

In a press conference on July 02 2025, Kyagulanyi alleged that senior army commanders and other security operatives are behind the recent wave of fake bomb threats and fabricated acts of terror in the Greater Kampala area. He argued that the intention behind these schemes is to justify continued repression of opposition supporters and sow fear among the public.

Thousands of NUP supporters gathered to hear what Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu had to tell the nation.

“For years, we have warned that the regime fabricates or exaggerates such incidents to justify its violent repression of opposition supporters,” Kyagulanyi stated. “Today, the regime’s own admissions further validate what we have always known: that it is the chief architect of these manufactured threats.” In the recent days, the CDF ordered arrest of a score of senior army intelligence officers who were the architects of these fake bombs

The NUP leader further decried the continued incarceration of opposition supporters at facilities like Kitalya and Luzira prisons. He said many are being held on trumped-up charges related to terrorism and illegal possession of firearms, simply because they stood for truth and justice.

Youth Exploitation and Post-Rally Arrests

Kyagulanyi also drew attention to the plight of impoverished urban youth, particularly in Kampala’s ghettos, who he claims are being exploited by the regime. According to him, young men and women were offered yellow T-shirts and a meagre Ugx. 10,000 to escort President Museveni during recent NRM nomination activities.

“These desperate youth now sit behind bars, scapegoated for the violence and theft we witnessed across the city in the wake of dictator Museveni’s activity,” he said. “This is a cruel pattern—use them, discard them, and then blame them for crimes instigated by the regime itself.”

Kyagulanyi referenced widely shared social media videos that purportedly show individuals linked to state activities engaging in criminal behavior, further accusing the regime of orchestrating chaos to criminalize poverty ridden opposition.

Probe into NUP Vetting Concerns

Turning inward, the opposition leader acknowledged ongoing concerns within his own party regarding the integrity of the candidate vetting and harmonization processes managed by the NUP Elections Management Committee.

“There have been troubling allegations suggesting attempts by some leaders to manipulate the ongoing vetting and harmonization process,” Kyagulanyi revealed. “We do not take these allegations lightly.”

In response, NUP has launched an independent investigation led by Deputy President Jolly Tukamushaba. Kyagulanyi urged party members and concerned citizens with credible information to cooperate with the committee to ensure transparency and accountability.

Political Temperature Rising

These developments come at a time when Uganda’s political landscape is heating up ahead of the 2026 general elections. With internal tensions in opposition ranks and growing criticism of state security practices, Kyagulanyi’s remarks are likely to ignite further debate about the role of the military, the manipulation of public fear, and the future of democratic participation in the country.
