Kyagulanyi, Doreen Nyanjura: Ugandan Police Is Playing NRM Politics

Sheebah Kalungi And Cindy Sanyu Hosted A Concert At Kololo Independence Grounds That Attracted A Mammoth Crowd To Which Kyagulanyi Says, Police Exhibited Double Standard By Not Deeming It As A Soft Target For Terrorists, But Singled Out His Rallies Only. Kyagulanyi And Doreen Nyanjura Assert That Police Is Playing NRM Politics To Poke It's Nose Into Activities Of Political Parties.

Uganda Today: Cindy Sanyu and Sheebah Kalungi music concert, has profoundly exposed Uganda’s Police as a body bent on playing NRM Politics at the detriment of the two giant opposition political parties in the country.

Two weeks back, Kyagulanyi the president of National Unity Platform (NUP) embarked on a countrywide tour of Mobilisation and opening up rural offices in a bid to marshal support for the much anticipated 2026 general elections.

His rallies attracted unprecedented crowds which surprised the ruling party whose leaders have consistently argued that Kyagulanyi and his NUP only attract crowds in Buganda.

It is thus insinuated that Police that had earlier desisted from conducting itself unprofessionally later succumbed to the perennial infiltrations of ruling regime commands to stop NUP activities. However, Kyagulanyi has vowed to continue continue with his mobilisation.

On the part of Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), ever since its member of Parliament for Kira Municipality, Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda opened the Pandora box by his revelation that the Party Secretary General Nandala Mafabi and the party President Patrick Oboi Amuriat, succumbed to NRM pressure and received 300,000,000 from president Museveni, the party is now embroiled in controversy that split the the party into two factions.

The Ssemujju faction attracted support of its earstwhile president Dr. Kizza Besigye and the chairman of the party ambassador Wasswa Biriggwa who together with other party stalwarts are organising a party delegates conference which Police has also thwarted in the same way they have interfered with NUP mobilisation.

President Tibuhaburwa Museveni’s government has routinely hounded opposition supporters preventing them from reaching out to the people. Crowds surround NUP President Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu in Mayuge. Police that had this time around played it neutral, have retreated to taking their usual “orders from above”

Cindy and Sheebah concert and what Kyagulanyi says of it in relation to police.

I want to congratulate my two sisters #Cindy and #Sheebah for putting up such a powerful show last night. Sigenda kwogera ani awangudde, but I thank the multitudes of fans who turned up to support their artistes.

Very importantly, I hope we can all see that the FAKE BOMB SCARE was a creation of the panicky regime to block our activities. I hope Enanga will not come to tell us that terrorists go to sleep when all other gatherings are going on but wake up during #NUPCountryWideTours. Tujja Tujja!_

Police gave reasons that Kyagulanyi’s mobilisation tours attracted mammoth crowds that are very soft grounds for terrorists. Kyagulanyi finds this as an irony of the century because his rallies take place during broad day light yet concerts like the just concluded Sheebah and Cindy concert that are hosted at night couldn’t be a “soft target” for Terrorists.

The Kampala Deputy Lord Mayor also says police’s interference in the organisation of her party’s delegates conference, is a manifestation of president Museveni’s deliberate strategy of sowing seeds of discord in FDC through bribery and interference of Police on his orders. Nyanjura asserts that the filmsy reason of a letter earlier written to police by the party’s secretary general being advanced by police to thwart the delegates conference and advise the two factions to go into dialogue instead, is more of a Court’s jurisdiction than a police duty dispensation.
