Kyagulanyi Condemns Regime’s Intimidation and Bribery Tactics Ahead of Political Events

In a strongly worded statement published on his official Facebook page, Kyagulanyi alleged that Resident District Commissioners (RDCs), District Internal Security Officers (DISOs), and presidential advisors have “turned themselves into tools of evil maneuvres,” betraying their civil service mandates by engaging in partisan activities meant to frustrate opposition mobilisation.

This Presidential advisor left no stone unturned in her bid to coerce and dissuade residents of Kabale not to go and attend Kyagulanyi’s rallies in the area. She is completely oblivious of the electoral laws that bar civil servants from engaging in elective partisan politics.

UgandaToday: Kyagulanyi Condemns Regime’s Intimidation and Bribery Tactics Ahead of Political Events

Opposition leader decries misuse of public funds and growing impunity among government operatives

National Unity Platform (NUP) president Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine, has accused government agents of orchestrating widespread intimidation, bribery, and sabotage aimed at discouraging citizens from attending his political rallies across the country.

“They Have Nothing Left to Offer” — Kyagulanyi Speaks Out

According to Kyagulanyi, state operatives are resorting to desperate tactics in response to the growing public discontent with the regime.

“Left with nothing to offer, regime thugs have been going ahead of us, trying to bribe, demobilise and intimidate our people not to attend our events,” he stated.

He cited several incidents across western Uganda, including Rwampara District, where the RDC allegedly threatened boda-boda riders with expulsion from operating within the district if they attended an NUP rally.

Similarly, in Rubaare, Ntungamo District, Kyagulanyi claimed that local authorities rounded up youths from various ghettos, detained them in gardens under the pretext of offering money, and held them there until the NUP rally concluded.

“Of course, several of them defied and still showed up,” he added, praising the resilience of supporters who resisted coercion.

Kabale Presidential Advisor Under Fire

Kyagulanyi also took aim at a presidential advisor in Kabale who reportedly urged young people not to welcome him to the district, branding him dismissively as “an artiste.”

He condemned such rhetoric as an affront to democratic freedoms, arguing that every citizen has the right to listen to all political candidates and make independent choices.

Despite the daunting and unwarranted huddles including but not limited to arrests, beatings and all manner of repression NUP has gone through in western Uganda, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu attracted mammoth crowds in most parts of western Uganda.

“She doesn’t seem to understand that the people must have a right to receive and listen to all candidates and then make a decision on who to support,” he said.
“The joke is on her. Keep recording these criminals and exposing them. They will individually and collectively account for this abuse.”

Public Funds Misused for Political Intimidation

The NUP leader further expressed outrage that public resources were being diverted to finance political repression instead of addressing critical community needs.

“What should concern the citizens more is that the money used in all these despicable actions is public money which should be fixing roads and ensuring that we have medicine in hospitals,” Kyagulanyi lamented.

He urged Ugandans to continue documenting and exposing acts of intimidation, corruption, and abuse of power by government officials, vowing that accountability will eventually prevail.

Context: Mounting Tension Ahead of 2026 Elections

Kyagulanyi’s remarks come amid growing political tension as Uganda inches closer to the 2026 general elections. His campaign trail has been punctuated by reports of arrests, roadblocks, and restrictions on assembly—challenges reminiscent of his 2021 presidential bid.

Observers say the increasing use of state machinery to stifle opposition activity signals deeper anxiety within the ruling establishment about the shifting political tide, especially among the youth.

Editor’s Note

This report builds on Uganda Today’s continuing coverage of NUP’s Western Uganda mobilisation tour, which has in recent weeks seen the opposition leader traverse districts including Mbarara, Bushenyi, and Ntungamo. Previous stories highlighted the enthusiastic turnout among youths despite heavy security deployment, as well as recurring allegations of state interference in opposition gatherings.
