UgandaToday: Kyagulanyi Accuses Muhoozi-Directed Soldiers of Brutal Raid on Home, Assault on Wife Barbie Kyagulanyi
Kampala, Uganda — Opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine, has accused soldiers allegedly acting on the orders of the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, of violently raiding his home, assaulting his wife Barbie Kyagulanyi, and subjecting her to degrading treatment as they attempted to extract information about his whereabouts.
Kyagulanyi’s allegations follow a social media post by Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, in which the CDF claimed that Ugandan soldiers had “captured and then released Kabobi’s wife Barbie” and that she was “very helpful in helping us find her husband.” The post, accompanied by a photograph showing a woman seated on the floor while a soldier stands nearby, has triggered widespread public outrage and condemnation.
Kyagulanyi: “They Put Her on Gunpoint and Assaulted Her”
In a detailed statement shared on social media, Kyagulanyi described what he termed as a violent and humiliating ordeal inflicted on his wife during the raid.
“Here is a picture of my wife shared by Museveni’s son and head of our nation’s military, Muhoozi Kainerugaba,” Kyagulanyi wrote. “When soldiers on his orders raided our home, they made her sit down, put her on gunpoint to reveal her phone passwords and my whereabouts, assaulted her, and eventually tore her nightdress shirt while filming.”
Kyagulanyi further alleged that the soldiers only left after Barbie’s blood pressure rose and she became unconscious, prompting her being rushed to hospital for medical attention.
“Like she narrated, these criminals were filming everything and definitely sending them to their deranged boss,” he added.
Barbie Kyagulanyi Hospitalised, Recovering from Trauma
According to Kyagulanyi, his wife is currently recovering from both physical and psychological trauma following the incident. He said Barbie has expressed appreciation to Ugandans and supporters who have reached out with messages of solidarity and encouragement.
“Barbie is strong and appreciates all of you who have reached out with messages of strength and solidarity, as she tries to recover from the trauma,” Kyagulanyi noted.
He also reflected on the personal toll of the attack, stating that when Barbie took marriage vows “for better for worse,” she never imagined facing such treatment at the hands of state security operatives.
Home Still Under Military Occupation
Kyagulanyi disclosed that his residence remains under military occupation, with soldiers reportedly blocking access even to close family members.
“Meanwhile, our home remains occupied by the military as they try to hunt me down. No one is allowed to access my home, not even family members trying to deliver basic needs like food,” he said.
Public Outcry and Calls for Accountability
The incident has sparked renewed debate about the conduct of security forces, the safety of opposition figures and their families, and the growing role of social media pronouncements by senior military officials in politically sensitive operations.
Human rights activists and opposition supporters have called for an independent investigation into the alleged raid, the treatment of Barbie Kyagulanyi, and the circumstances under which the photograph was taken and shared.
“Uganda Will Be Free” — Kyagulanyi
Despite the ordeal, Kyagulanyi struck a defiant tone, insisting that neither he nor his supporters will be intimidated into silence.
“In all this, we remain encouraged by our undying faith that UGANDA WILL BE FREE. Museveni and his son will one day pay for all the crimes committed against the people of Uganda,” he wrote, concluding with the hashtag #FreeUgandaNow.
As of publication, neither the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) nor the Ministry of Defence had issued an official response addressing Kyagulanyi’s specific allegations
