Charles Maxwell Mugude Mutembule, the LC5 Chairperson of Kamuli District, has tragically died in a fatal road accident that occurred early this morning along Kayunga Road. Authorities confirmed the accident occurred as he was reportedly travelling on official duty, though further details surrounding the incident are still emerging.

The news of Mugude’s untimely death has sent shockwaves through Kamuli and the wider Busoga region, with tributes pouring in from political leaders, friends, and especially from his former schoolmates at Kakira Senior Secondary School (Kakira SS), where the late was a student in the early 1990s.

Mugude, fondly remembered by many as a calm, intelligent, and humble figure, was not only a seasoned leader but also an elder admired by those who knew him during his school years. A prominent member of the Kakira SS Old Students Association (KASSOSA), Mugude had attended the group’s first reunion and was expected to join this year’s upcoming gathering.

KASSOSA Chairperson R. Ojambo expressed deep sorrow on behalf of the alumni association:

“It is a sad moment for KASSOSA. Mr Mugude is tragically gone. On behalf of KASSOSA and on my own behalf, I send my sincere condolences to the family, OBs and OGs of KASSOSA, and the Kamuli district fraternity for the sudden death of our brother Charles Mugude that occurred this morning. May his soul rest in eternal peace.”

Many members of the KASSOSA network, both in Uganda and abroad, have taken to social media and alumni platforms to share heartfelt memories of the late leader. One member wrote, “His image in his well-ironed KSS uniform is still running in my memory so many years gone by now! He was very smart yet not showy, very approachable, and always carried himself with humility.”

Another alumna emotionally recalled, “We lived with them at Nyanza quarters… very friendly people. I’m speechless. Bitalo nyo, bitalo dala banange!”

A fellow KSS alum who shared residence in Line Kubwa remembered Mugude as “a calm elder you would admire from afar. He was ahead of us, and even though we were kids, we all respected him deeply.”

Mugude by the time of his death, had already shown intentions of running for political office under the ruling party NRM.

Beyond his school ties, Mugude was a dedicated public servant and a pillar in Kamuli District’s political and civic life. He was a brother to Zac Idiro and other siblings, and his passing is being mourned not just as the loss of a leader but as the loss of a son, brother, and friend to many.

Community members and colleagues are now rallying around the bereaved family, with calls for emotional, spiritual, and material support being echoed across the region.

“Let’s put his family in our prayers and support them in every way we can during this very difficult time,” urged one mourner.

The Office of the Kamuli District Local Government is expected to release an official statement regarding burial arrangements and a possible memorial service in the coming hours.

As the Busoga sub-region mourns, the memory of Charles Maxwell Mugude Mutembule—his gentle demeanor, impeccable dress, and unwavering commitment to service—remains etched in the hearts of many.

May his soul rest in perfect peace.
