Uganda Today: Kagame Retires 12 Generals As He Grooms Son To Succeed Him

President Paul Kagame has retired twelve soldiers at the rank of general from Rwanda Defence Forces (RDF). Among those retired include two who once served as chief of defence forces (CDF) of RDF-Gen. James Kabareebe and Charles Kayonga.

In a press statement issued on August 30, the retired include two full generals, lieutenant generals, five major generals and three brigadier generals.

The retired are Kabareebe, Kayonga, Fred Ibingira, Martin Nzaramba, Eric Murokore, Charles Karamba, Augustine Turagara and Albert Murasira.
Also retired: Chris Murari, Didace Ndahiro and Emmanuel Ndahire.
The retirement of those generals occurs at a time when Kagame’s son, Ian has been deployed in the elite force guarding his father. Ian graduated from the prestigious Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in UK.

It is assumed that Kagame is grooming his son to take over the Presidency in years to come.
