UgandaToday: Kadaga Dismisses Hospitalisation Claims, Says She Is “Resting and Fully Engaged”

By UgandaToday Reporter

KAMULI | Mbulamuti — Uganda’s First Deputy Prime Minister and Kamuli District Woman Representative, Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga, has publicly refuted reports alleging that she was hospitalised at Aga Khan Hospital, describing the claims as false and politically motivated.

Speaking to journalists at her home in Mbulamuti, Kamuli District, shortly after attending Christmas service, Kadaga said she was in good health and had merely taken time to rest following a series of demanding state assignments abroad.

“I Was Only Resting After Hectic Duties”

Kadaga clarified that there had been no hospital admission, stressing that the reports circulating online were misleading. “I have been resting after earlier hectic state duties out of the country. There is nothing unusual about that,” she told reporters, dismissing the speculation surrounding her health.

Her explanation echoes earlier statements made last week by her spokesperson, Felix Isabirye, who had similarly denied claims of hospitalisation and assured the public that the Deputy Prime Minister was well and continuing with her work.

Claims of Politically Sponsored Rumours

Kadaga went further to suggest that the reports were not accidental but sponsored by political opponents seeking to weaken her standing ahead of the next elections. She said such narratives were aimed at portraying her as incapacitated in order to dislodge her from the Kamuli Woman Representative seat.

“These online reports are sponsored by people who want to create unnecessary anxiety and gain political mileage,” she asserted.

She emphasized that her long public service experience has prepared her to withstand political pressure and misinformation campaigns.

Campaigns Ongoing, No Gagging of Rivals

Addressing the political dimension directly, Kadaga said she remains actively engaged in her duties and is coordinating her campaign activities with ease. She noted that, unlike some of her Cabinet colleagues, she does not believe in gagging or blocking competitors from contesting against her.

“I am busy doing my work and coordinating my campaigns normally. I welcome competition,” she said, adding confidently that she expects to win the elections by a landslide.

Reassurance to the Public

Kadaga concluded by reassuring her constituents and the country at large that she remains focused on service delivery and national responsibilities, urging the public to treat unverified online reports with caution.
