Uganda Today: Kabaka of Buganda Returns from Germany in Improved Health
Entebbe – July 4, 2025 | www.ugandatoday.co.ug
His Majesty Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II, the reigning monarch of the Buganda Kingdom, has returned to Uganda following a three-week medical visit to Germany. The Kabaka, who had traveled to the European country for a comprehensive health examination and treatment, arrived at Entebbe International Airport to a warm reception led by senior Kingdom officials.
The Kabaka was received by the First Deputy Katikkiro (Premier) of Buganda, Owek. Twaha Kawaase, who addressed the media shortly after welcoming the monarch. He assured the country and Buganda subjects that the Kabaka’s health has significantly improved.
“We are happy to report that His Majesty is in good spirits and his health is steadily improving. The medical team in Germany offered him the best care and we are grateful to God for his continued recovery,” Owek. Kawaase stated.
Also present to receive the Kabaka were other senior members of the Kingdom and security officials, signaling the significance of the occasion and the deep cultural reverence the people of Buganda have for their King.
Dressed in a well-tailored blue suit and looking visibly composed, the Kabaka made his way through the VIP section of the airport under tight but respectful security. While he did not speak to the press, his presence alone offered great reassurance to his people, many of whom have been anxiously following updates about his health.
Last year’s Kabaka Mutebi’s prolonged medical trip to Germany and later Namibia had sparked widespread concern and well-wishes from across the Kingdom and the Ugandan nation at large. Cultural leaders, religious institutions, and political figures sent prayers and messages of support during his time away.
The Kabaka is expected to continue his recovery and rest from Lubiri (the royal palace), while keeping a light schedule as he gradually resumes his much appreciated leadership and cultural duties.
Buganda Kingdom has expressed gratitude to all well-wishers and urged the public to continue praying for the Kabaka’s full recovery.
