Uganda Today: INTERPOL Summons Jolly Irankunda Over Missing Land Title of The East African University
Kajiado, Kenya / Kampala, Uganda – INTERPOL Kenya has formally issued a summons for Jolly Shubaiha Irankunda, the estranged wife of Ugandan education magnate Prof. Badru Dungu Kateregga, to appear before INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB) Kampala, over a matter concerning the mysterious disappearance of a land title deed belonging to The East African University, a private institution located in Kajiado, Kitengela – Kenya.
According to documents obtained by Uganda Today, the contested land spans more than 100 acres and is the main campus property of The East African University, a sister institution to Kampala University and a member of the Badru Dungu Kateregga Universities’ Network International, chaired by Prof. Kateregga.
Title Deed Disappears Amid University Audit
The matter came to light during a routine verification exercise at the Kajiado land registry, where university officials discovered that the original land title for the institution could not be located. Subsequent inquiries led authorities to suspect Jolly Irankunda, a former Vice-Chairperson of the University’s Board of Trustees, of withholding the vital document.
Despite being summoned by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Kajiado-Kitengela, Irankunda reportedly failed to appear. She is said to have promised to hand over the land title to her lawyers in Kenya but has not followed through on that commitment to date.
In a subsequent response, Irankunda claimed she had submitted the title to the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) in Uganda. However, this assertion was proven false, as no such document was ever received by Ugandan authorities.
Personal and Legal Disputes Surface
The land title controversy appears to be unfolding against a backdrop of deeper personal and business disagreements between Prof. Kateregga and Irankunda, who were formerly close partners both domestically and professionally. Irankunda has claimed that she played a pivotal role in the university’s operations during its difficult formative stages.
“I found Professor Kateregga struggling with the university business. I helped him with new management ideas and gave my full energy day and night. It would not be fair if I walk away with nothing from all my sweat,” she reportedly stated.
INTERPOL Kampala Takes Over
Following her continued failure to comply with local summons in Kenya, INTERPOL NCB Kampala has been formally engaged to compel her appearance for further investigations. The case is now under international scrutiny, raising questions about governance, accountability, and property rights within cross-border higher education ventures.
The East African University continues to operate normally, but its administration has called for a swift resolution to the land title issue to safeguard the institution’s long-term interests.
More developments are expected as INTERPOL Kampala takes further steps to enforce compliance and recover the missing title deed.
