SOROTI, UGANDA – February 5, 2025 – In a chilling and bizarre turn of events, the director of Jozan Nursery & Primary School in Soroti city is suspected of murdering a young pupil, Apio, in a shocking incident that has left the community in disbelief.
According to preliminary investigations, the school director allegedly committed the heinous act inside a pit latrine, where he is suspected to have held the child’s body in such a way that the neck was directed into the pit, allowing the blood to spill into the latrine to erase evidence of murder. The motive behind the gruesome act remains unclear, but authorities are treating it as a premeditated killing.
The alarm was raised when Apio went missing, prompting the school matron to begin an urgent search for the child. Despite being confronted about the missing pupil, the school director feigned ignorance and made no effort to assist in the search. However, a breakthrough came when fellow pupils, who had witnessed Apio’s lifeless body in the latrine, bravely led the matron to the disturbing scene.
Faced with undeniable evidence, the school director allegedly continued his desperate cover-up by instructing the matron and school nurse to transport the deceased child to a hospital and falsely report that the death was an accident. His attempt to manipulate the situation, however, quickly fell apart as authorities were called in and an investigation was launched.
Soroti police have since taken the school director into custody as part of an ongoing investigation. The body of Apio has been taken for a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
The Soroti community has reacted with outrage and sorrow over the tragic incident, demanding swift justice for the murdered child. Parents, teachers, and local leaders have gathered at the school, expressing shock and grief over the betrayal of trust by a school administrator who was expected to safeguard the children in his care.
As police intensify their probe, more details are expected to emerge regarding the circumstances leading up to Apio’s tragic death. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Education and Sports has called for a thorough review of safety and security measures in schools to prevent such horrifying incidents from recurring.
This case stands as a grim reminder of the vulnerabilities faced by children in institutions meant to nurture them and raises serious questions about accountability in Uganda’s education system.
