A public exchange between veteran media personality MC Kats (Edwin Katamba) and celebrated television presenter Haffy Powers (Hasifa Nabbanja) has sparked debate across Ugandan social media, with Haffy openly criticizing Kats for what she described as immature and unnecessary online behavior.

The disagreement erupted after MC Kats posted a message on X (formerly Twitter) lamenting what he perceived as a lack of support from affluent individuals towards a deceased colleague’s vigil and burial arrangements.

In his post, Kats appeared frustrated, questioning why people he considered financially capable could not contribute basic necessities such as food and water during a funeral vigil.

His remarks quickly attracted attention, prompting Haffy Powers to publicly respond.

Haffy Powers: “You Ought To Think Better”

In a strongly worded response, Haffy Powers expressed disappointment with the veteran television host, accusing him of behaving irresponsibly on social media.

“Kats disgusts me sometimes. You’re an old man, you ought to think better. Don’t be like these Gen Zs who just type and tweet whatever nonsense they think of. Do better man. Enough is enough,” Haffy wrote.

Her comments immediately generated mixed reactions, with some social media users supporting her call for restraint while others defended MC Kats, arguing that he was merely expressing concern over societal attitudes towards supporting bereaved families.

Haffy Powers has built a successful career as a television presenter and media entrepreneur. She currently co-hosts Morning Xpress on Sanyuka TV alongside Adam Kungu and remains one of Uganda’s most recognizable female media personalities.

Before joining Next Media, she rose to prominence at BBS Terefayina where she hosted popular programs including Kasukaali and Sumulula. Her vibrant presentation style and outspoken opinions have earned her a loyal following.

MC Kats, on the other hand, is regarded as one of Uganda’s most influential entertainment commentators. Over more than two decades, he has worked with several leading television stations including WBS TV, NTV Uganda, and NBS Television.

Beyond entertainment reporting, Kats has become a respected HIV/AIDS awareness advocate after publicly disclosing his HIV status. He has since used his platform to fight stigma and encourage testing and treatment across Uganda.
