Bridget Kalungi Lubega, the fraudster behind Supamama Investment Club

Uganda Today Edition: Fugitive Bridget Kalungi Lubega: The Woman Behind Uganda’s Largest Social Media Scam

Kampala, Uganda — In an era where social media connects millions and promises infinite opportunities, it also harbors dark corners where trust is betrayed, and dreams are shattered. Bridget Kalungi Lubega, born on December 26, 1987, has become a notorious figure in Uganda for masterminding a scheme that left many Ugandan women in financial ruins. What started as a seemingly benevolent investment club on Facebook has now turned into one of the most significant fraud cases in recent Ugandan history, with Bridget suspected to be hiding in Canada.

The Birth of Supamama Investment Club

Bridget Kalungi Lubega, a name once associated with hope and prosperity, created the Supamama Investment Club on Facebook, luring hundreds of Ugandan women into her web of deceit. The group was marketed as a haven for women seeking financial assistance for various needs, such as taking vacations, paying school fees, and investing in agriculture. With a charismatic online presence, Bridget convinced these women that by pooling their resources, they could collectively support each other in times of need.

The Scheme Unfolds

Members were instructed to deposit their contributions into Housing Finance Bank A/C No. 1100178525, registered under the Supamama Investment Club, where Bridget was the sole signatory. Initially, the club seemed legitimate, with some women reportedly receiving assistance as promised. This facade of credibility encouraged more members to join and contribute larger sums of money.

However, as the months passed, the requests for financial aid from the club’s members went unanswered. Doubts began to surface, and when some members demanded their money back, Bridget became elusive. It soon became clear that the funds were not being used as promised. The Supamama Investment Club had become a financial black hole, with Bridget at its center.

The Escape and Investigation

As suspicions grew, Bridget vanished, leaving no trace behind. It was later discovered that she had likely fled the country, with Canada being the suspected destination. The scam came to light in early 2024 when desperate victims reported the fraud to the Uganda Police, leading to the registration of the case under vide number GEF100/2024.

A Call for Justice

The Ugandan police are urging anyone with information about Bridget Kalungi Lubega’s location to come forward. Efforts to track her down have extended internationally, with law enforcement agencies in Canada being notified of her fugitive status. Despite the challenges, there is a collective hope that Bridget will be brought to justice, and the victims of her deceit will find some semblance of restitution.

Moving Forward

This case serves as a stark reminder of the risks associated with online investments and the importance of due diligence. While social media platforms offer incredible opportunities for connection and growth, they also provide fertile ground for scams and fraud. The story of Bridget Kalungi Lubega underscores the need for increased vigilance and stronger regulatory frameworks to protect individuals from such predatory schemes.

As the investigation continues, the victims of the Supamama Investment Club hold onto a fragile hope that justice will be served. Meanwhile, the search for Bridget Kalungi Lubega goes on, with her face and story serving as a cautionary tale in the digital age.
