WAKISO- KAMPALA, UGANDAThe Uganda Police Force is investigating the death of former Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Julius Ahimbisibwe, who was found dead at his residence in Nakitokolo, Kyengera Town Council, Wakiso District, on Sunday morning. Ahimbisibwe had been suspended from duty following allegations of domestic violence.

SSP Julius Ahimbisibwe’s body being retrieved from a septic tank at his home. This raises a lot of questions as to how a suicide victim’s body would be retrieved from a septic tank

Background of the Case

In late 2024, Ahimbisibwe was suspended after reportedly shooting and injuring his wife suspecting her of having an affair with another man. The incident, which occurred in Kyengera, led to his immediate suspension and the initiation of criminal proceedings. The victim survived the shooting, and Ahimbisibwe was awaiting trial at the time of his death.

Discovery of the Body

Neighbors reported a foul odor emanating from Ahimbisibwe’s residence, prompting them to alert local authorities. Upon gaining entry, police discovered his lifeless body in an advanced state of decomposition. The cause of death has not been officially determined, and the body has been transported to Mulago City Mortuary for a post-mortem examination.

Police Statement

Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire confirmed the incident, stating that investigations are ongoing to ascertain the circumstances surrounding Ahimbisibwe’s death. He urged the public to refrain from speculation and allow the investigative process to proceed.

Broader Context

Ahimbisibwe’s death occurs amid a troubling rise in domestic violence cases involving law enforcement officers in Uganda. In a separate incident, a police officer in Naguru was arrested after admitting to killing his wife and a colleague over allegations of infidelity . These cases have prompted calls for increased mental health support and counseling services within the police force.

Community Reaction

Residents of Nakitokolo expressed shock at the news of Ahimbisibwe’s death. Many described him as a reserved individual who kept to himself following his suspension. Community leaders have called for a thorough investigation to provide clarity and closure to the incident.

Conclusion

As investigations continue, the Uganda Police Force has reiterated its commitment to transparency and accountability. Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
