UgandaToday: Easy Come, Easy Go: The Dangers of Mixing Work and Relationships

By Barbara Nabuzaale
When Love Turns into a Transaction
In today’s world, many people have started faking love — not because they genuinely care, but because they are chasing something else: a job, a promotion, money, or power.
A woman may pretend to love her boss, not because of real emotions, but to secure a position or financial support. On the other hand, some men in power misuse their offices as hunting grounds — sleeping with whoever they want, not out of affection but simply because they can.
These relationships are rarely founded on honesty or mutual respect. They are transactional, built on selfish motives — and in the end, they leave behind pain, shame, and regret.
When Emotion Meets Exploitation
It becomes worse when the woman starts developing real emotions, desiring control or privileges in the office because she feels “close to the boss.” She forgets that the man already has a family, responsibilities, and a life beyond work.
Inevitably, when the boss grows tired or feels the relationship threatens his peace or business, he will end it abruptly — blocking calls, cutting communication, firing, or ignoring her completely.
And what remains?
Regret, bitterness, and painful memories that can’t be erased.
As the saying goes:
“What comes easy, goes easy.”
What is gained through shortcuts never lasts.
What is built on lies will collapse.
What starts with lust often ends in loss.
The Hidden Costs of Office Affairs
When a job or promotion comes through a romantic shortcut, it may arrive quickly — but it can vanish even faster. Such arrangements offer no stability, no security, and no self-respect.
The Dangers of Mixing Work and Relationships
-
You lose focus and professionalism at work.
-
You feel entitled instead of accountable.
-
You build your confidence on a connection, not on competence.
-
And when the affair ends, you’re left with no job, no peace, and no respect.
Let’s be honest — once you’ve been used and discarded, you can’t rewind the clock. You carry that emotional weight alone, while the boss moves on like nothing happened.
Final Word: Protect Your Value
Guard your dignity and self-worth. Don’t mix emotions with professionalism. Don’t sell your integrity for a temporary opportunity.
Your body is not your CV, and your looks are not your job security.
Let your work speak for you.
Let your skills lift you.
Let your character sustain you.
Because at the end of the day:
What comes through honesty stays — but what comes too easily?
Easy come, easy go.
