The trade fair was officially launched on Tuesday, August 13, 2024, in a ceremony presided over by the Chairperson of UMA, Mr. Manisur Kayondo. During the launch, Mr. Kayondo emphasized the importance of this year’s event, highlighting UMA’s growth since its inception in 1992. “From humble beginnings, UMA has grown into a formidable force in Uganda’s industrial sector,” he said. “We are proud to host an international trade fair that reflects the steady progress of our manufacturing industry and our commitment to economic development.”

Since its establishment, UMA has been at the forefront of promoting local manufacturing, contributing significantly to reducing the country’s dependence on imports. With over 1,846 manufacturer members, UMA has played a key role in driving Uganda’s industrialization agenda, reducing imports to just 20% of the country’s needs.
