Uganda Today Edition: Aliddeki Foundation to Host Community Symposium for the Elderly at Bugema SS in Busiika on May 28
Luweero, Uganda – Aliddeki Community Development Initiatives, a vibrant community-based organization operating in Luweero District, is set to host a special symposium for the elderly on health and economic emancipation on May 28, 2025, as part of its ongoing commitment to empowering vulnerable populations and promoting inclusive community development.
The event, which will be held in Kamira Sub county, Bugema SS Busiika Town Council, is being organized in close collaboration with officials from the Social Assistance Grant for Empowerment (SAGE) programme under the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development.
The symposium aims to shed light on the often-overlooked plight of the elderly in Uganda’s rural communities. It will offer a platform for dialogue, education, and empowerment, enabling senior citizens to better understand their rights, access available government support, and voice their concerns to relevant authorities.
“This symposium is not just about listening to the elderly; it is about responding with concrete action and targeted support. We believe in creating an inclusive society where the wisdom and needs of our elderly are respected and prioritized,” said Pr. Christian Aliddeki, the retired Archbishop of the Seventh-day Adventist Church and patron of Aliddeki Foundation.
Focus on Sustainable Development and Inclusion
Founded in 2019, Aliddeki Community Development Initiatives has steadily grown into a grassroots beacon of empowerment, focusing on information sharing, skills training, and development programs tailored to the local community’s socio-economic needs.
With a strong mission to enhance sustainable community development, the Foundation works through collaboration with both governmental and non-governmental institutions to implement impactful interventions, especially in health, education, agriculture, and social protection.
“Our vision is to transform the socio-economic livelihood of communities like Kamira, and this begins with meaningful engagement—especially with the most vulnerable,” noted a representative of the Foundation.
The upcoming symposium is expected to draw participants from across Luweero District, including community leaders, local government representatives, faith-based organizations, and development partners. Officials from the SAGE programme will use the platform to provide information on monthly cash transfers for senior citizens aged 80 and above, as well as address issues related to enrolment, eligibility, and service delivery challenges.
A Platform of Advocacy and Hope
The symposium also represents a wider strategy by Aliddeki Foundation to amplify the voices of marginalized groups and build bridges between the community and service providers. Beyond the May 28 event, the organization plans to continue hosting quarterly forums and training workshops aimed at strengthening community resilience and fostering inclusion.
